Publishers j LETTERS Get both sides To the editor: Recently an article in "Reader's Digest" and a broadcast on CBS' "60 Min utes" have raised many ques tions about the National and World Councils of Churches of Christ. Both pieces have dis torted the work of these two bodies and put forth implica tions with no proof. The organization making these accusations is the Insti tute on Religion and Democ racy This institute itself re quires investigation. It is a neo conservative, partisan group which has launched a very political campaign, claiming that religious organ izations are too political! History book needs cooperation of all To the editor: The Morrow County Histori cal Society is undertaking a monumental task of putting together a book on the history of this county. In a rural area like ours, the lives of its citizens have always been in terrelated. Our uniqueness, unlike metropolitan places, is that v,e know and care about each other. While some families have their own histories recorded, this book will incorporate the stories of everyone. Without cooperation of all, this publi cation will sadly lack completeness. Friendship Baptist moves to new location Friendship Baptist Church in Heppner will begin holding regular services at a new location on Sunday. Feb. 6. As the Christian Life Center moves to its brand new quar ters, the Baptist congregation will occupy the building at Willow and Gale streets out grown by the larger group, said a Baptist church spokes person. Friendship Baptist has met in the homes of members and interested persons. Recently, the group met on Sunday mornings at the Neighborhood Center. They are grateful for classrooms and a place to call home until their own building can be built on land already owned by the church. Bible study begins at 9:45 a.m. followed by Sunday morning worship at 11 a.m. Sunday evening meetings will resume soon, and the time will be announced at a later date. EDITOR oxx-:-:-x-:vXi-: of the story Be wary of the propaganda this institute produces. If people are concerned about the mission of the National and World Councils, they should get the facts through their own churches. The staff and funds of these two reli gious bodies do overwhelming goodin the world, and they do not support Communist gov ernments or movements any where, as the IRD has claimed they do. Make up your own mind, but get both sides of the story first! Sincerely. The Rev. Cathy Barker lone. 422-7530 The short time it takes to write a brief narration is quality time. I feel shame for the apathy of those that do not respond, whose families' en deavors are responsible for this county's history. Said ef forts should reflect a great deal of pride. To me. the completion of this book is a great legacy to the future generations of the county. The Historical Society is to be highly commended for their endeavors. Sincerely. Merlyn Robinson Heppner Pastor Jay Rowley and the people of the church extend a cordial invitation to anyone w ho would like to worship with them, and to those who would like to know more about the church, the spokesperson said.
