I Dm id and April Hilton Sykes, Publishers Margaret Brosnan Williams ALEXANDREA, Arkansas -Margaret Brosnan Williams, a former area resident, died at her home in Alexandrea, Ar kansas on Sunday, January 2, 1983, at the age of 68. She was born July 4, 1914 at Lena to John and Zetta Bros nan. She attended schools at Lena and in Heppner and was a Pendleton Round-Up prin cess in 1934. She married Don Williams at Alexandrea in 1962. Graveside serves are to be held at Alexandrea. Survivors include her hus band, Don, of Alexandrea; her mother, Zetta, and brothers Jerry and Joe, all of Lena; and numerous nieces and nephews. William Clair Walter I0NE - William Clair Walter of lone died December 29, 1982, aU- Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner at the age of 74. He was born November 12, 1908, to Charles and Emma Mosier Walter in Prescott, Iowa. In 1930, he came to the John Day Valley area. On July 7, 1935, he married Cleta L. Wood at Prairie City. He came to the lone area in 1968, working as a well driller. Kr. Walter was a charter member of the John Day Elks Lodge 1824. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 3, at the lone. United Church of Christ with the Rev. Cathy Barker offici ating. Honorary bearers were Elmer Ladd. k'erle Anbury, Steve Hebener, RoJlo Craw ford, Stan McGill, Gordon White, Milton Morgan and Wayne Rietmann. Musical selections were by Rikka Tews, organist and Ron Mc Donald, soloist. Graveside services and bur ial were at Prairie City on January 4. Survivors include his wife, Cleta Walter, and daughter Pat Osborne, both of lone; sister June Johnson of Tygh Valley; three brothers: Fred erick and Raymond of Pres cott, Iowa, and Alfred of Sac ramento, Calif.; four grand children and one greatgrand child. Memorial contributions, for those who wish may be made to the Pioneer Memorial Hos pital Foundation, directly or through Sweeney Mortuary in Heppner. Sweeney Mortuary, Hep pner, was in charge of ar rangements D.A.'s Report Helen Leatha Findley, 46; John Thomas Findley, 23; and Elwyn Coy Findley, 56, all of Boardman, entered not guilty pleas in Morrow County Cir cuit Court December 30 to two counts of alleged Delivery of a Controlled Substance to a Mi nor, two counts of alleged Delivery of a Controlled Sub stance for Consideration, three counts of alleged Crim inal Conspiracy and two counts of alleged Possession of a Controlled Substance, said a Courthouse spokesperson. In other news, Richard Les ter Christie, 19, of Hermiston, charged with alleged First Degree Theft, pleaded guilty to Second Degree Theft in Morrow County Circuit Court on December 30. Keppner Obituaries " The Rev John CTBrien HEPPNER - the Rev. John O'Brien of Heppner, died De cember 16, 1982, at the home of his brother, James, in Bewley, Cappouquin, County Water ford, Ireland, at the age of 70. He pastored St. Patricks and St. Williams Catholics Churches in Heppner and lone. He was born January 12, 1912, in Bewley. After com pleting his philosophy studies at Mt. Melleray Seminary, Cappouquin, he entered St. Kieran Seminary at Kilkenny, Ireland. He was ordained there for the Baker Diocese June 11, 1939. He served as associate pas tor at Sacred Heart Parish at Klamath Falls and at Saint Francis de Sales Cathedral at Baker. He was appointed pas tor of Saint Alphonsus Parish, Dufur on July 29, 1943 and following that assignment he served as pastor of Saint Patrick Parish at Vale from 1946 to 1959; Saint Augustine Parish at Merrill from 1959 to I960; Saiut Agnes Church, Pilot Rock from 1960 to 1974; and served in Heppner and lone since 1974. In addition to his parochial assignments, he served as pro-syndal judge on the Mar riage Tribunal, on the Dioce san Building Committee, on the steering committee which set up the Senate of Priests for the Diocese of Baker, on the Senate of Priests, on the Dio cesan Board of Counciliation; on the Diocesan Health and Retirement Board as a con sultant, and as dean of the Northern Deanery. The Rev. O'Brien had been eligible for full retirment for several years but had chosen to take paratial retirement instead in order to continue as pastor of the Heppner and lone Parishes. He went to Ireland in July of this year to visit his family and suffered a heart attack shortly after arriving there, but had expected to return to Heppner after the first of the year. He was buried from his home parish in Cappoquin on December 19. Rosary was said Monday, Dec. 27 at St. Patricks Catho lic Church in Heppner. A Memorial Mass was offered at the Church December 28. The Most Rev. Thomas J. Connolly D.D., Bishop of Baker, offici ated. He was assisted by the Rev. Timothy B. Collins of St. Marys Catholic Church, Pen dleton, who delivered the Homily. Musical selections were by Rose Marie Buschke, organist. Thirty priests and 10 nuns attended the Memorial Mass. Local woman named to Uof P honor roll Members of the Heppner Garden Club are reminded that their January meeting will follow a 6:30 p.m. potluck dinner at the home of Justine Weatherford on Monday, Jan. 10. Bec ket of Heppner died December 31, 1982, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner at the age of 98. She was born November 2, 1884, to James and Lettie Wood Forbes. She attended Green Lake schools, and moved to Portland in 1907. She came to this area in 1908. and taught in the Liberty School District near lone. On June 3, 1908, she married Walter W. Becket in Portland. They returned to the Becket ranch near Heppner, where they lived until moving into Heppner in 1946. Mrs. Becket was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Valby Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968. Funeral services were held January 3 at Hope Lutheran Church. Heppner, with the Rev. John Maas officiating. Casket bearers were Cecil Rill, Brett Buschke, Robert Buschke, Marty Buschke, Ronald Becket and Jerry Buschke. Musical selections were by Karen Stack, organist. Concluding services and vault interment were at Hep pner Masonic Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Laurence, of Heppner; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Contributions for those who wish, may be made to the Valby Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Sweeney Mortuary, Hep pner, was in charge of ar rangements. Edith M. King BELLEVUE, Wash. - Edith M. King of Bellevue, Wah., a former Lexington resident died December 19, 1982, at the age of 63. She was born at Orland, Calif, on October 20, 1919. She grew up in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School in 1936. She later graduated from Kinman Business University in Spo kane, Wash, and remained at the school as an instructor for seven years. A resident of the Bellevue area since 1954, she was active in both church and school affairs. A memorial service was held December 22 at Eastgate Congregational Church in Bellevue. Survivors include her hus band, Fred, sons Terry and Donald, a daughter, Lois, and one grandson, all of the greater Seattle, Wash, area; two brothers, Albert Edwards of Tigard and John Edwards of Lexington; and a sister, Jerrine Marrs, of Menlo Park, Calif. Mark Wil liam Rogers. 26. of Boardman, was arrested by a Morrow County sheriff's deputy on an Irrigon Justice Court Warrant for alleged Failure to pay a fine on a Driving While Su spended charge. On December 29, a Board man ambulance responded to a Boardman residence to as sist a possible heart attack victim. The patient was trans ported to Dr. Lobb's office in Boardman. Also on December 29, the Boardman Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Interstate 84, five miles west of Boardman, in the east bound lane. In another December 29 incident. Ted A. Sampson. 35. of Irrigon was arrested by a Morrow County sheriff's deputy on an Irrigon Justice Court Warrant for alleged Failure to Appear on a Trans porting Livestock out of Ore gon Without Brand Inspection charge. On January 1, a Morrow County sheriff's deputy re sponded to a one-vehicle in jury accident near milepost four on Highway 207. Steven Dale Lankford, driver of the vehicle, was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner by a private citizen. He was cited for alleged Care less Driving. Justice Court Morrow County Justice Court at the Morrow County Courthouse in Heppner han dled the following cases dur ing the past week: Deann Colleen Connor, Pendleton - Exceeding the Maximum Speed (65 mph in a 55 mph zone), $12 fine. Scott Ernest Epperly, Rose burg - Careless Driving - $18 fine. Wesley Virgil Marlatt, Hep pner - Exceeding the Maxi mum Speed (65 mph in a 55 mph zone), $12 fine. Pat Brindle Coordinator, Heppner Neighborhood Center Koad Heport , 1 " L The Morrow County Public Works Department has re leased the following Work Re port for the weeks ending December 25 and January 1 : During the past two weeks shoulder and ditch work was done on Big Butter Creek Road and Juniper, Bergevin, Valby. Barlow Canyon, Holtz, Milton Morgan and Brenner Canyon roads. Roads that were bladed in clude: Gar Swanson, Halvor sen to Eight Mile, J. Berg strom. Alpine Nelson, Howton, Bill Bergstrom, Klinger Doherty. and Carlson. Gravel was bladed onto Paul Tews, Kincaid Holtz, Tony Viy and Zinter roads. Weeds and brush were piled and burned on numerous county roads. In the north end of Morrow County, cold mix patching was done on the Irrigon Ordnance Road. Slaughter Road and Frontage Road. Shoulder work was done on Pole Line Road to help with water drainage. Gravel was spread on road No. 910 and the shoulders of Washington Street.
