The action took place in the living room of a cottage in North England which was rented by Stella, an actress who had been busy and popu lar in years past, but who was presently much in need of a good role. Joanna Bown, who portra yed Stella, is an AFS student from South Africa. She was on stage most of the time and had many lines well memorized, which she spoke with feeling. The action began on Stella's birthday. Dennis Mordaunt, a produ cer whom she had been friendly with and had worked with in the past, came to visit, to present a birthday gift and to talk with her about a play in which he might cast her. Ken Curtis creditably carried this big role, which kept him on stage in almost every act and scene. Another major part was played by Mardel James, who portrayed a one-time actress ling earlier years spent dur ing her free time at repertory theaters and now fondly re called the plays and the play ers. Mardel's voice carried better than the voices of most of the other cast members. Vicki Adams as Mary and Danny Fortenherry as Peter provided the youthful, roman tic interest. She is Stella's niece and he is Oliver keane's nephew. They made their roles believable. Mel Seitz. played Wimpie. Stella's maid and cook, and injected some humor through her part Annette Wilfiers was Flavia, a second glamorous actress hoping for a role in the play contemplated by producer Mnrdnunt to whom she is unhappily married. She and Stella are jealous of one ano ther and enjoy making need ling and snide remarks about one another. Glenn Smith, is Oliver Keane. a one-time leading man. whose sudden murder provides the thrill and mys terv of the play. His rather brief appearance was well done. Viewers had probably hoped for more comedy and more thrills. Quite a few thought that the rather constant use of liquor and the repeated smok inc hv the youthful cast was not appropriate in a school plav which was being seen by unsophisticated family eroups. Although the plav wricht's lines may have leen quite amusing, they brought few lauchs from the audience which had trouble hearing many of them. Those who worked wilh Dir ector Uutv Cerullo included I,oran Hayes at the lights; Kevin Hughes with sound; Mary Ann Cerullo with make up. The set design and its execution was by Glenn Smith. Wes Marlalt, Mardel James, Thorn James, Ken Curtis, Vicki Adams, Mary Ann Cerullo and Mrs. Jane Rawlins. Cnrllena Rathbun and Mary Ann Cerullo served as prompters. Glenn Smith and Thorn James were the slage mana gers and Carllena Rathbun was In charge of publicity for the production.
