Tree, decorations ready
for Christmas Opening

The Christmas tree is up,
street decorations have
been hung and merchants
have been planning and work
ing all week for Hcppner's
Christmas Opening this Fri
day and Saturday. Many new
activities have been planned
to add to the Christmas spirit.
CHRISTMAS TREE
LIGHTING CEREMONY
A new feature of this year's
opening will be a Christmas
Tree Lighting Ceremony
which will begin at 4 p.m. on
Friday around the tree In front
of Oa Furniture Chnnn
students and everyone in the
community Is Invited to join In
singing Christmas carols as
the ceremony begins. At dusk.
Of, Cutsforth is scheduled to
flip the switch, lighting the
tree. The Soroptimists will be
giving out free hot cider be
tween 4 and 5 p.m.
SILENT AUCTIONS
Another new feature this
year will be silent auctions.
Many Heppner merchants will
have items on display in their
stores to bid on. The highest
bid on each item buys the
merchandise. The auctions
Will be held Friday and Saturday.

of the community who wish to
share the day with others are

Rauch to
complete
school board
term
Irvin Rauch, Morrow Coun
ty Commissioner elect, has
announced that he will com
plete his term on the Morrow
County School Board. Rauch
said he will not seek re-election
to the board after his term
expires in July.
Rauch has served as a di
rector on the board for 17
years.

exercise equipment grant
The Morrow County School
District has applied for
grant from Wells Fargo Bank
of California to purchase and
install exercise equipment at
Heppner grade school.
If the grant is awarded the
equipment would be installed
on a one-half acre site across
the creek behind the school.
The district will be required
to pay $4,600 to match the
grant money from Wells
Fargo. : ; :'
The equipment would in
clude various wooden exercise
implements which would be
placed on a cleared area
covered with wood chips.
The Morrow County School
District voted to apply for the
grant at its November meet
ing last Monday night.
In other business, the
board:
decided to put off a
decision on adopting a new
conflict of interest policy
governing employees of the
district until its next meeting.
The board wanted certain
wording in the proposed policy
changed.
