FOUR The Heppner Gaiette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, Office building going at county shop site A modular building was being set up at the new county shop site in Lexington Tues day. The building will house the Public Works Department office and possibly the county planner's and surveyor's of fices, said Don Briggs, direc tor of the Public Works De partment. Presently, the Pub lic Works Department office is located in the Giliam and Bisbee building on Main St. in Heppner. The structure which has room for about five offices and a large conference room for county meetings, was obtain ed through federal surplus for hauling costs only, from Idaho Falls, Idaho, said Briggs. The county has had the building for about two years and has been waiting to erect it until the county shop was Lexington news Delpha Jones 989-8189 Lexington Grange met on Saturday night, Sept. 25, for the yearly Booster Night pro gram. The evening started with a potluck dinner featur ing roast beef, potatoes and gravy, hot biscuits, salads and desserts. The tables were de corated with lovely dahlias, furnished by the Garden Clubs District meeting held that day in Heppner. Also at each place were note pads, pencils and book matches furnished by the Grange Mu tual Life Company. After opening the meeting the dis tinguished guest and speaker of the evening, Glennabelle Lewis, newly elected state grange lecturer of Baker and her husband, Charles Lewis, master of Baker County Po mona, were introduced and welcomed. Also acknowledged at this time were the visiting grange masters, Bob Stephens of Rhea Creek, and Lewis Halvorsen of Willows. Edith Morin, County Pomona secre tary and mother of k'rs. Lewis was introduced. The group was then enter tained with lovely numbers, fun and serious by members of the Sweet Adelines with mem bers coming from Pendleton, Hermiston and Irrigon. The group was well received by an appreciative audience. The speaker then told the group of some of the workings of the grange: how it was organized and how the names of the stations were chosen. She reminded the group of the power of the resolutions, and of the lobbyists "provided by the granges at the state and national levels, and that the grange is really a legislative body using its powers for a New Adventure Club to begin 2nd year The New Adventure Club will begin its second year on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at the First Christian Church, 293 N. Gale, Heppner, upstairs, announced the Rev. Don Shelton, pastor of the church. Others gave a few meaningful words after which the meeting adjourned and all enjoyed coffee and visiting in the dining area. Joyce Buchanan has been confined to Pioneer Memorial Hospital for several days this week. Edith Morin of Baker was Saturday overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Jones. Her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lewis, spent the night at the home of Lewis and Dot Halvorsen in lone. Mr. and Mrs. Zearl Gellispie of Boardman were visitors at the T.E. Messenger Sr. home on Saturday. A Bible study being held at the Lexington Christian Church every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend is cordially invited. Recent callers at the Erda Pieper home were her daugh ter, Mrs. Stacey Brown of Newport and Mrs. Earl Hall of Portland. Rich Morey of Portland spent several days recently visiting with his grandfather Paul Morey. through four are welcome. Members of the club will study the life of Jesus in a series entitled "Jesus and Me," he said. Each session will include songs, a Bible story, activities and some times a handcraft or games. The American Hereford As sociation, headquartered in Kansas City. Missouri, is the world's largest beef breed registry organization, having entered more than 18 million head into the records since it was founded in 1881. The Hereford breed, one of the oldest in the United States, is well known for its ability to convert grass and grain to beef efficiently, the announce ment has concluded. The tables were beautifully decorated with dahlias and the main hall with beautiful bouquets of dahlias and gladiolus, cour tesy of the Heppner Garden Club members The business meeting was opened wit if a prayer by Cathy Barker, pastor of the lone United Church of Christ, and group singing.
