The Oregon Crop & Live
stock Reporting Service has
released the following Crop
Report :
Oregon's winter wheat yield
per harvested acre is now
estimated at 55 bushels, up
two bushels from August 1, but
six bushels below lost year's
record yields. Yields in the
Willamette Valley were gen
erally better than expected
and despite dry weather,
yields held well in Eastern
Oregon. Estimated production
of winter wheat is now set at
60 S million bushels, 17 per
cent below the record crop of
1981. That production combin
ed with an earlier estimated
production of spring wheat,
places all wheat production at
64 5 million bushels, 17 per
cent below last year. National
ly, all wheat production is
forecast at a record 2.82 billion
bushels, one percent more
than last year's previous
record production.
Barley production is esti
mated at 12.7 million bushels
with an average yield of 62
bushels per acre, the second
highest yield on record.
Nationally, barley production
is up eight percent.
Other Oregon crop forecasts
as of September 1 are as
follows: oat production, at 5.5
million bushels, unchanged
from August 1 and 21 percent
more than last year; sugar
beet production, at 278.000
tons, seven percent below
1981; hop production, at 12.95
million pounds, five percent
more than last year.
Nationally, hop production is
forecast to be down fractional
ly. Filbert production in Ore
gon is forecast at a record
16,700 tons, up 16 percent from
the 14,400 tons produced in
1981. Including Washington,
the total production for 1982 is
forecast at 17,000 tons.
Prune and plum production
estimates for Oregon are
unchanged from the 30.000
tons estimated August 1. If
realized, this production
would be equal to the 1981
production.
Bartlett pear production in
Oregon is still forecast at
76.000 tons, 11 percent less
than last year. All other pears
are estimated at 1O5.000 tons,
12 percent below the 1981 crop.
All pear production for the
Pacific Coast is estimated
739,500 tons, 13 percent less
than the 1981 crop.
Strawberry production in
1982 is estimated at 58.0 mil
lion pounds, 13 percent above
the 1981 crop. Despite an
unseasonably dry May, yields
averaged a record 10,000
pounds per acre. Harvested
acreage was up 300 acres in -1982
to 5.800 acres.
