Heppner tracksters display super By C.I.ENN SMITH Tuesday. April 27. Sherman Co. was the sight of the Heppner track teams' display of what Coach Dale Conklin called "some super duper efforts." Heppner journeyed to Sherman Co. to compete in a five way track meet that also included Wahtonka. Sher man Co.. Condon, and Wasco Co. Team scores for the girls were Wahtonka 68'. Sherman Co, 56';. Heppner 54. Condon 20. and Wasco Co. 19. Heppner girls missing second by only 2' ? points. The closeness of the girls' score in Coach Conklin's opinion was. "The most satis fying event of the whole track meet." High scorer for the girls was Stephanie Payne with 13' points, followed by Pam Orr with 12 i points. Payne re ceived two firsts, one in the 100 in 13.42 and another in the 200 in 28.72. plus she earned points by being on Heppner winning 400 meter relay team. Pam Orr received a first in the shot put. setting a new school record with her tremendous heave of 31!5". She also received two third placings. one in the 400 and another in the 300. The Cardinal boys finished first with 72 points, and the girls finished third with 19 points. First places for the boys wererecorded by Denny Starr in the discus with a toss of I19'10"and first in the javelin, with a throw of 149'4": Patton in the high jump with a leap of 5'8"; Craig Hams in the triple jump with a leap of 37'2's": Mike Douglas in the 1.500 meters in 4:42.01 and in the 3.000 meters in 10:17.59. An other double winner for the Cardinals was Donnie Taylor in the high hurdles in 18 seconds and in the intermed-. iate hurdles in 45.93. The Cardinals 400 meter relav meters with a time of 13:48.48 and Anne Murray throwing the javelin 861 1'". Second places were record ed by Craig Hams in the long jump with a leap of 19'9'j"; Taylor in the high jump with a jump of 5'2": Leavitt in the triple jump with a leap of 35 5": and Jeff Hams in the 400 meters in a time of 55.38. Third places were brought in by Jeff Hams in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet: Starr in the triple jump with a jump of 34'4'a": Patton in the 1.500 meters with a time of 4:47.9fi and in the BOO meter run in 2:23.2; and Leavitt in the 400 meters in a time of 56.63. The only other third place win was by the 1.600 meter relay team consisting of Donnie Doherty, Scott Bar nett. Jay Love, and Mike Wes Marlatt. who. tied for first place in the discus with a throw of 108'6" and earned a third place in the shot put. Marlatt received nine points for the boys' team.
