Shaws honored as Yard of By JUSTINE WEATHERFORD Everyone should walk or drive by the S.W. corner of Gale and Church Streets to admire the attractive yard surrounding the home of the John Shaws. The Heppner Garden Club's selection com mittee and the Heppner-Mor-row Chamber of Commerce Community Activities Com mittee last week marked this yard as the Yard of the Month for April. The siRn presented by the C of C was placed at its front center and will remain there until May 15, when another outstanding yard in the Hep pner area will be selected for special attention. The three Shaws have lived in the house behind this month's sign for about four years now. Johnny and Linda Shaw claim Sisters, Oregon, as their home town, and they lived in Eugene, at Monument and at Kinzua before they came to Heppner in 1978. Their son "J.J.". now eleven, is in the fifth grade. Births Melissa l.ee Sharp - A daughter, Melissa Lee, was born to Joe and Marianne Sharp of LaGrande at St. Mary's Hospital, Walla Walla, Wash., on February 22, 1982, She weighed 7 lbs. 13'a oz. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pettyjohn, lone and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Sharp of Prineville. Great-grandfather is George Butler of Prineville. Melissa joins a brother James, two. at home. Brad ie Dawn Davis - A daughter. Bradie Dawn, was born to Ted and Mary Ann Davis of Heppner. on January 12 at the Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital. Portland, She weighed 2 lbs. 7 oz. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Don Greenup of Heppner and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Davis of Pendleton. Great-grandparents are Peggy Moyer of Heppner and Elma Scott of Tri-Cities, Wash. Bradie joins a sister. Heath er. 13 months, at home. Ben Lukas Goodyear - A son. Ben Lukas. was bom April 15 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner to Kent and Carol Goodyear of Hep pner He weighed 6 lbs. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Allen Nistad, Heppner and Mr. and Mrs. John Goodyear of Portland. Ben joins a sister, Aleida, five years at home. Zachary D. Munkers - A son, Zachary D., was born at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner to Donna Jean Mun kers of Heppner. He weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Don Munkers of Heppner. P.M.H. Auxiliary meets The Pioneer Memorial Hos pital Auxiliary met Thursday. April 8 for a business meeting and Easter party. Plans were made and dis cussed at the meeting to enlarge the hospital patio, said auxiliary member Betty Brown. Brown also reported that the auxiliary has pur chased shelves to be installed in each nursing home resi dent's room. Two new mem bers were welcomed and joined the auxiliary. Brown said. Women of Friendship Bap tist Church of Heppner hosted Camp Fire skating Camp Fire members from lone. Lexington and Heppner will hold a skating party at the Morrow County Fairgrounds on Saturday. Many of the plantings here were done by former owners. Because of his efforts, a two day school closure was ended, just in time for the arrival of the Lynch Terrace Exchange students. Extension Service Wheat growers planning to attend the Morrow County Weed Tour on Wednesday, April 28 are to meet at the Extension office in Heppner at 12:30 p.m. or at the Charlie Anderson farm at 1 p.m. The tour is scheduled to conclude at twilight. Several weeks of diligent groominf hrnnoht the Shaw mm comes to the rescue Heppner on Monday nf last week and was promised to arrive last Tuesday. By Friday afternnon the part had not yet arrived and Warren started working on the furnace. Over the weekend, he over hauled a boiler which had own shut down earlier for repairs. The repair project was set for summer vacation and was quite extensive. Mr. Warren completed the job in two and one-half days, report ing late Sunday evening that the job was finished and that there would be heat in the buildings Monday morning. 10:20 a.m. at Heppner High School. Mr. Buckendorf is bringing a 100 voice choir to Heppner as part of a spring concert tour. He is presently teaching in Nampa. Idaho. served following the ser vice. Signs were repaired and reset, and some cold mix patching was also done. lone spring concert slated By CATHY PECK The lone Rand-Chorus Spring Concert is set for May B. 7 p.m.. at the lone High School Cafeteria. Three bands, in cluding the fourth, fifth and junior-senior high bands will perform under the direction of Jim Clotigh. The girls' vocal class will present a program nf popular songs. places in at BMCC category winners will be announced as their scores become available. The win for Struthers qual ifies him to participate in the State Math Skills Contest to be held at Oregon State Univer sity on April 27. Struthers. The winners of the district contest will go on to the state contest which will be held at the Oregon State Fair next September. Readers for the contest will be Chuck Starr. Barb Stefani and Laura Mc Dnugall. Contestants and spectators are asked to report to the lone school cafetorium for instructions. Refresh ments will be served after the contest.
