The Cardinals jumped out to a 17-fi first quarter lead on the way to the victory. In the second quarter, the Pirates outscored the Card inals but not enough to take the lead. The Cardinals were up M 2(1 at the half. The Cardinals came out of the locker room to open up their lead to eight. 4B-38. Patton sank seven of the Cardinals 17 points In the second quarter the Cardinals were outscored by two as the Chiefs closed the lead to 30-25. The Cardinals held Uma pine to nine points in the third quarter as they opened up a 15 point lead, 49-34. The Cardinals were out scored by one point in the final quarter but marched on to take a victory. Cardinal girls lose to Cascade Locks By MICHKM.F. I.ARl'E The Cardinals were defeat ed in their final game of the year as they were downed 37-46 by Cascade Locks. The Cardinals took an 11-8 lead in the first quarter as Tammy Holtz sank six of her eight points in the first quarter. The Cardinals were out scored by one in the second quarter but held on to a two point lead at the half. 18-16. The Pirates took the lead away in the third quarter as the Cards were outscored by three. February 19. The Cardinals outscored the Pirates 9-7 in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Pirates went out to take a 16-22 lead at the half. The Cardinals held the Pirates lo five points in the third quarter as they sank 12 points. The Cards took the lead 28-27. In the final quarter the Cardinals blew the Pirates off Two Cardinals scored in double figures, Patton leading with 26, Jeff Hams sinking 14 and Donnie Taylor had nine points. The Cardinals shot 27 of 57 for 47 percent from the field and 12 of 24 for 50 percent from the free throw line. Sandlin 0 0-1 0. Banks. Fowler. Lindsay wins District Elks Scholarship Award Ann Lindsay, a Heppner High School senior won the District Elks Scholarship award last Sunday, February 21 in Hermiston. She was a first place winner in the Heppner-Ione contest and has now won a total of $2,100 in Elks scholarship awards. Lindsay competed in the district contest with students representing 10 other lodges across northeast Oregon. This weekend she will com pete against students from seven other districts in the state contest at Grants Pass. Fish and Wildlife Comm. sets 1982 hunting dates Opening dates for most 1982 hunting seasons have been set by the Fish and Wildlife Commission. The starting dates are established early in the year as a convenience to hunters who need to plan or commit themselves to vaca tion dates. Season lengths, bag limits and other regulations will not be set until later in the year after biological data on animal numbers and popula tion trends has been gathered in the field. No ma jor departures were made in 1982 big game opening dates from those which occurred in 19B1. Deer season will open statewide on ' October 2. Rocky Mountain elk season will open in eastern Oregon on October 30 for the first hunt period and Novem ber 6 for the second hunt. Roosevelt elk season will open November 13 for the first hunt and November 20 for the second. The rifle season for prong horn antelope will begin August 21. six days later than last year, and the statewide early bowhunting season for deer and elk will begin August 21. Upland bird hunters will also have starting dates simi lar to 1981. The Pirates jumped out to a 6-14 first quarter lead. The Cardinals hit the first six points of the game but were unable to score after that. The Cardinals came back in the second nuarter bv outscor ing the Pirates 12-6 to close the lead, 18-20.
