A potlurk dinner proceeded the meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Kemble Tellef son from Milton-Freewater as (tuests of honor. Cornelia (Connie) Tellefson. a long time judge of flower shows and other competitions in volving women, is now presi dent of District 10 of the Heppner" Bookworms meet, HyJl'STINK V E .ATI I FR FOR D Since last September 8. when the Heppner Bookworms re-grouped for their 1981-1982 year of sharing their reading experiences at their dinner meeting in the home of Marion Abrams. the members have enjoyed four book-review meetings. Their leaders are President Inez Erwin and Secretary Lorena Jones. On September 22. the ladies Fair & Rodeo news 1982 Fair and Rodeo dates were selected with regard to State Fair dates, said Secre tary Dorothy Estberg. "With our fair dates it will be possible for those with entries to the State Fair to enter in plenty of time." she added. The fair will begin August 21 and run through Aug. 24. The rodeo will be held Aug. 27-29. The Morrow Co. Fair Com mittee is continuing the con tes for the 1982 Fair Theme. The contest is open to club organizations only, said Est berg. The collection of recipes, including everything from baby food to beverages, and appetizers to desserts, has been a two year labor of love for members of the young homemaker group. Described as a perfect gift for those who love to cook, or like a "letter from ' home" for former Ionians, the cookbook is eagerly awaited by many, including members of the publishing Extension Group. At this meeting the membership determined to give their annual Christmas charity gift to the patients at Friends in the West s eek host families for students Friends In the West, a non-profit student exchange program based in Parma. Idaho, is currentlv seeking hast families for students age 14-18 who will be coming to this area from Brazil in mid-December. Friends In the West was organized in 1975 with the goal of explosing as many families as possible to a cultural exchange experience by con centrating on one country and shortening the length of com mitment to three months. "Over the past five years.we have placed students through out the Northwest. Students Cluh Planning Rummage Sale Community service projects are high priority for the Extension members of North: Morrow Co.. and this year they have chosen supporting the Senior Citizen Building fund. They are currently collecting resalable items for a rummage sale, and encour aging their members and friends to make craft items and baked foods for their big sale December 11 and 12. The group keeps its fingers busy making quilts, too. so in addition to the sale items, they will be taking donations which include the chance to take home one of their hand made quilts, as well as help with the building fund. The event will be held at the old Assembly of God Church. East 8th Street. Irrigon. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. This will be the annual Christmas Partv at which each member will bring a favorite selection of poetry to share and families have found the exchange experience to be most rewarding." said a spokesperson. The students come with a reasonable degree of English proficiency. Area Adventist churches receive new pastor Pastor Gunnar Sjoren has replaced Pastor Dan Adels as Adventist pastor for the Hep pner, Condon and Sprav churches. Pastor Adels has recently moved to Spokane W.ish Pastor Sjoren and his wife Nelly recently retired from the Hermiston church after serving as senior pastor for six years. Pastor Sjoren has also pastored churches in New York City and Chicago.
