David and April Hilton Sykes, Publisher LETTERS Of interest To The Editor: We feel this release of the efforts of a small group of citizens to improve the econ omy of their community would be of interest to your readers. Following is the release: On October 20, 1981, the Wheeler County Energy Cor poration responded to the Bonneville Power Adminis trations "Request for Power Resources" by submitting a proposal for a seven mega watt wood-fired energy gen erating facility, to be located in Fossil, Oregon. Fossil is the Coun ty Seat of Wheeler County, which has suffered severe economic downturns in the past three years. The feasibility analysis has shown that the proposed facility's technology is fea sible and proven, that supply is available at a cost-effective rate, and that financing for this project is readily avail able. The facility is estimated to cost 8.5 million, and will employ some 19 persons at the plant, and an additional 25-30 employees for acquisition and transportation of wood mater ials to operate the facility. This would create a total county-wide payroll of $1.5 million. The facility would generate an additional $170. 000 per year in tax revenue to the county. JUSltCE Justice Court at the Morrow Co. Courthouse in Heppner handled the following cases 'during the past week: Kenneth J. Lewis. 339 S.W. 13th. Dundee - failure to validate deer tag. $19 fine. Pamela Jo Trubachik, S .E. 5th, Gresham - hunting in a prohibited area: Safety Zone. $29 fine. Richard Dee Wharton. Box 56. Ridgeway, Hermiston -violation of a regulated hunt Correction" In a story published in last week's Gazette-Times entitled "Wheat weeds present pro blems, Extension offers solu tions," a portion of the story was typographically omitted. Following are the correct, last three paragraphs of that story: Several fall-applied herbi cides are available. Buctril and Bromanil (bromoxynil) can be applied immediately after the wheat comes up, but the weeds should be two inches across or less. Bronate and Bromanil-P (bromoxynil - MCPA ) can be applied after the wheat has at least four to five leaves, and the weeds should be two inches across or less for best control. Mixtures with 2,4-D should be applied after the wheat has three to four tillers to prevent damage. Other herbicides include Igran. Maloran, Kar mex. and Lor ox. Growers should consult with their Extension agent or farm chemical dealer for more information.
