Expanding Horizons for the 80's; It's our fair Itv HltUHNKTl I I IS The Morrow County Fair Hoard and Fair Committee, working together to provide a community event in which everyone can take pride, offer everyone the opportunity to "Kiand llorions" by partic ipjiimg in the fair. All member of the board iind committee are volunteers ... itenple vou know who PMH Aux., OLA to sponsor blood pressure booth As a special service this year at the Morrow County Fair, the Tioneer Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, in conjunction with the Oregon Lung Association, will test your blood pressure free of charge. Special service, done by Auxiliary and OLA volunteers, will be in the community booth section of the fair. The booth will also feature material about your heart and lungs distributed by the OLA. Also at the booth, the Auxiliary will kick off their ticket sales for a nurse doll to be auctioned off as a fundraiser for a new patio for the Pioneer Memorial Hospital Nursing Home. 4-H'ers show smarts at Fashion Revue; 2 shows in 1 HyRlimiVF.Tri.MK The news in fashions this (all for the younger generation will tx' shown Tusday at II p m on August 2r at the 4 H Fashion Kevue. There will lie bovs. ii well an girls, model ing their favorite outfits. The clothing and knitting mem ters will le showing their smarts about sewing it and saving money, as well' as having good quality garments The kids know how to expand their wardrotes. and have more variety by sewing' They may Ik- fourth graders, or they may be high school age. but they have learned their les sons well They know thai Jy sewing they can have individ ualized, personalized, one of a kind garments that fit their style and their shape. The Kevue is really two fashion shows in one, The garments sewn or knit by the members, and the Favorite Outfit. In favorite outfit con test they ni(xlel the clothing, or outfits they enjoy wearing most It may be their blue jeans, or it might te a wedding gown. They are always ima ginative, and fun to see. Fashion Kevue will again be in the main pavilion at the fair grounds, with the models wending their way among the exhibit tables. The audience gets a good, close look at each model as they parade through the hall. Before the public show, all models have shown their garments to the judge and have received a white, red, or blue rating for their modeling skills, the choice of the garment and style for the individual, sewing skills, grooming and poise. The fashion show will be narrated by two former 4 H members. Todd Harrison and Mari Kvans. Special enter donate their time and effort to make our county fair an enjoyable, notable event. It is sometimes a thankless job; it is certainly a year around job for the two committees and the secretary (and Extension employees editor's note ) . She and the caretaker are the only paid employees. A year of planning and work point to county fair with events this year running from Aug 22 tainment will he provided during the event by 4H members. But they cannot do it alone ... and it is not their fair ... It is the county's fair! Superintendents volunteer their time and effort. They, the board, and committe provide the opportunity ... citizen participation provides the exhibits. The Morrow County Fair is a County Fair. There's a place for everything that is produc- ed or made in the county. Meanwhile, out in By BIRDINKTI'IJ.IS To some 4 H or FFA members, happiness at county fair is ... a steer, a pig. a lamb, or perhaps a goat. Those are the projects out in the barns. Out in the barn is where you see some of the most interest ing shows at fairi They may be the scheduled events such as showmanship or judging confirmation. Or they may be the kids preparing their ani mals for showing. The fashion show is the big event for 4 H , clothing and knitting members. They invite the public to attend and view their accomplishments. ei Mombw FDIC People come to look, to enjoy, to participate. The County Fair Is a family fair, some thing for everyone. You'll see the 4 H ers and FFA boys and girls; you'll see the senior adults of the county. They hope they will see you ... and your exhibits! It is not the Fair Board's fair .. it is yours. If your want your fair to be a success ... it is up to you! the barns happiness is a steer, a pig Herdsmanship is an import ant contest at fair of which the public is seldom aware. Clubs and individuals must keep their stalls or pens and the area around them clean and presentable at all times. Animals, too, must be kept in top-notch condition during their stay at the fair. Stalls and pens are inspected at regular intervals by the herds manship judge ... but the kids never know when that judge is coming! Be sure to include a trip through the barns; there's a lot to be seen during the shows, or even between! Visit with the members, check them out to see what they know about the cost of raising a beef for market, or animal health, or most any topic. They are learning all about that in 4 H and FFA. and should be happy to share the information. Bank
