'Food for Later' TV series offered OEPBS A new Extension food pre servation series will be shown on the state's OEPBS stations beginning in mid-July. Called "P'ok1 for Later." the seven part series covers canning, freezing, pickling, drying and jams and jellies. The series is seen as a good introduction to food preservations for begin ners and as a good refresher "course" for the expttrienced food preserver. Produced by the OSU Exten sion Service, the series fea tures Nellie Oehler, former Linn County Extension agent and experienced food preser ver. Nellie worked closely with Carolyn Raab, Extension foods and nutrition specialist, last yeai in developing the training program for the first Master Food Preservers. Nellie will demonstrate the correct preservation proced ures in each program. Near the end of each of the half-hour shows, Carolyn Raab will join Nellie for a brief discussion focused on food safety. Plana call for the first program to be shown Tues day, July 14, over KOAC-TV, KOAP-TV, KVDO-TV and KTVR-TV. However, you're asked to check local TV listings to be sure because the date may be delayed if the Oregon Legislature should still be in session. The programs will be shown Tuesdays at 7 p.m. The order of the programs will be as follows : July 14 Making Jams and Jellies July 21 Freezing Fruits and Vegetables July 28 Canning Fruits and Tomatoes August 4 - Drying Fruits and Vegetables August 11 - Canning Vege tables August 18 - Making Pickles ans Sauerkraut August 25 - Canning Meat and Fish If you plan to view the series, you may want to pick up copies of food preservation bulletins on each topic at your local Extension office, to use as a resource while you watch the programs.
