MECHANICAL SCIENCES DIVISION I - PRFMIl'MS Blue-$3.00,Red-$2.00,White-$1.00 This division includes small engines, energy, automotive, tractor, snowmobile, motorcycle, bicycle and rocketry project areas. Exhibits will be judged on their individual merit using the following criteria : 1. What the member has learned. 2. How the display communicated to the public what was done. 3. Workmanship of basic skills in project area where appropriate. In each class the exhibit shall be an educational exhibit or display which will show or illustrate what the member has learned. Include a sufficient explanation to tell the Fair audience how the exhibit was made or what was done. Explanations are required to qualify the exhibit for judging. 4noi Junior 4iKt2 Intermediate 40003 Senior 4H004 Club DIVISION 2 - TRACTOR DRIVING CONTEST TRACTOR DRIVING CONTEST 9:00a. m. Tuesday. August 25 This contesl is open to all 4-H members who are enrolled in the Intermediate or Senior age group. Members need not be enrolled in "Tractor" or "Mechanical Sciences." per se. Contestants must present a signed parental release form at the slart of the contest. Each contestant will compete individually. Proper 4-H conduct will be expected: swearing or other disobediences will be grounds for disqualification. Entrants will first complete a written test of tractor operation knowledge. Entrants must pass this test before they will enter the actual driving contest. Total scores will be based on written test score and on performance of basic tractor maneauvers. More informat'Wi can be obtained from either the Vocational Ag department at Heppner -High School or from Morrow County Extension Service. Awards will be presented to the top five contestants: 1st $5.00. 2nd - $4 00. 3rd $3 00. 4th $2.00, 5th $1 .00. 4-H MARKET STOCK SALE FFA Sale Committee: Ron Currin. Louis Carlson. Merlin Hughes. All market livestock must be on the grounds by 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25. 2. AH sheep & hogs must be owned and in possession of 4-H or FFA members for at least 60 days. A TRANSPORTATION CERTIFICATE must be turned in at the time of weighing steers to show ownership. (The bill of sale on the back side must be completed to show transfer from original owner. ) All steers must be in possession of member by April 1. 3. AH sale animals must have been exhibited in their proper classes at the 1981 Morrow County Fair. 4. Each exhibitor is limited to 2 sales as follows : ( 1 ) one steer and one hog or lamb or (2) two lambs or (3) one hog and one lamb or (4) two hogs. Two steers will not be allowed. 5. All steers must grade USDA good or better to sell. All lambs must grade USDA good or better to sell. All hogs must grade USDA No. 3 or better to sell. 6. The animals meeting weight limitation will be evaluated by a qualified judge who will estimate if beef will grade good or choice (or better) ; if sheep will grade choice, and if hogs will grade US No. 1 or No. 2. The judges estimates will be based on exterior finish and conformation. Actual grade of beef will be influenced primarily by marbling. 7. Animals will not be permitted in sale if underweight. All weights are after pencil shrink. Steers must weight 900 lbs. and over Lambs must weigh 90 to 140 lbs. Hogs must weigh 195 to 240 lbs. 8. Shrinkage: All sale animals will be weighed off the truck, Tuesday, August 25. Lambs and hogs over the maximum weight will be sold-paid as weighing 140 lbs. for Iambs or 240 lbs. for hogs. A 3 percent shrinkage will be given to all animals hauled 10 miles or less. A 2 percent shrinkage will be given to all animals hauled more than 10 miles. 9. All market animals are consigned to the auction sale unless excused by the sale committee. 10. Unlimited bidding on 4-H and FFA grand champion animals. The reserve champions can sell for the same as the lowest grand champion, but no more. Other animals cannot sell for more than the lowest reserve grand champion. 4-H AWARDS LIVESTOCK AWARDS PENDLETON GRAIN GROWERS - Trophy - Pendleton ... to Grand Champion Steer. MORROW COUNTY LIVESTOCK GROWERS - Beef All Around Carcass, Rate of Gain, Live Placing . . . designed to encourage the production of meat-type animals which meet the demands of today's consumer, as well as provide an educational program for participants. To participate, members must weigh animals on designated date in spring, and on arrival at county fair. To be eligible for this award members must submit an up-to-date Feed & Growth Record at the time of final weigh-in Mon. Morning. Awards: 1st $100.00, 2nd $70.00, 3rd-$40 00, 4th $30.00. 5th $20 00. OREGON. WASHINGTON, NORTHERN IDAHO (OWHI) Hereford Award - To qualify an exhibitor will show: (1) Hereford Steer or (2) Registered Breedeing Female or (3) Group of Hereford exhibited by an Individual. Eligibility: 1 ) Must be currently enrolled in 4 H or FFA. (2) For show to qualify, 5 entries of herefords in breeding classes or market classes or combination of 5 in breeding and market classes. (J) The breeding cattle must be registered with the American (horned) Hereford Association.. (4) Exhibitor must be able to show evidence the market class animals were sired by a registered (horned) Hereford Bull. (5) The judge will determine the outstanding Hereford Exhibitor with a member of OWNI presenting outstanding Hereford Belt Buckle. WESTERN STATES ANGUS AUXILIARY - Outstanding Angus Exhibitor - The Western States Angus Auxiliary. Route 2, Box 880, Aurora, Oregon 97002, wiU award a silver trophy to the outstanding 4 H Angus exhibitor. The selection of the winner is to be based on more breeding and -or market animals. It must be kept in mind that the purpose of this award is the promotion of the Angus breed. The winning of the Auxiliary trophy in previous years shall not exclude an exhibitor from winning again. The judge of the Junior Beef Show will be asked to make the selection of the winner. AMERICAN POLLED HEREFORD ASSN. Champion Polled Hereford Female. NORTHWEST LIVESTOCK COMMISSION - Grand Champion Steer. OREGON POLL-ETTES - Highest Scoring Polled Hereford Exhibitor Trophy . . . The selection of the winner is to be based on the placing of the animal (s shown, his placing in showmanship, his herdmanship and sportsmanship. Exhibitors are eligible who apply for this award and show breeding and -or market Polled Herefords. Breeding animals must be registered in the exhibitor's name. Registration papers must be supplied when signing up for this award. Exhibitors of market animals must submit proof of registry of sire or dam.
