Judging will be done by the Senior Citizens at 2:00 p.m. Wed., Aug. 26. OREGON VIIEATHEAuTS 1981 OWGL CAKE BAKING CONTEST RULES 1. Contestant muHt be a resident of Morrow County. 2. Cakes must be exhibited Bnd judged at Morrow County Fair. 3. Cuke-baking contestants must be any person over the age of 18, exclud ing professional bakers 4 Each contestant must use the same "Wheathearts Red Devils Food" and "Wheathearts Chocolate Frosting" recipe from the Oregon Wheathearts as shown in the fair book. Check your county premium book for time your entry should be in place. 5. CAKE BAKING CONTESTANTS MAY BE HELD ONLY IN OREGON COUNTIES THAT ARE AFFILIATED WITH THE OREGON WHEAT GROWERS LEAGUE. At present these counties are: Baker, Gilliam, Jefferson, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco, and Valley. (Valley counties of Marion, Folk and Yamhill are combined as one county unit and judged at the Polk county fair.) 6. After the cokes are judged at the county fairs, th contestant may take at least 4 their cake home; leaving H the cake on display for the remainder of the fair, providing this does not conflict with local fair board policy. 7. Premiums will be paid directly to the winners by the Oregon Wheat Growers League office upon notification of the county extension office. County premiums are: lst-SlO.OO; 2nd 15.00; 3rd-$3.00. 8. First place winner in each county will be eligible to enter the state bake-off during the annuul convention of the Oregon Wheat Growers League, to be held November 29, 30 December 1,2, 1981, in Pendleton, Oregon. Top award of $100 will be paid to the state winner. If the county winner is unable to compete, the second place winner may represent the county at the state bake-off. Cake baking contestants may not re buke their cakes at the state bake-off unless there is a mechanical failure. Cakes to be displayed at the Wheat League baking contest, must be placed on a board (may be cardboard covered with foil, etc.) 9. The 1st place winner in the state cake baking contest is ineligible to compete in the state contest for three years after the year he-she wins. OREGON WHEAT GROWERS LEAGUE 1981 OFFICIAL CAKE RECIPE WHEATHEARTS RED DEVILS FOOD CAKE Vi cup butter or margarine 2 eggs 2 oz unsweetened melted chocolate 1 tsp. vanilla '-i tsp. red food color 1-4 cups unsifted cake flour 1 cup granulated sugar to cup packed hrown sugar 1-to tsp. Soda 4 tsp. Salt !-' cups buttermilk Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour or wax paper two 9 inch round cake pans. Sift together all dry ingredients into mixing bowl, add butter, buttermilk, and vanilla, and beat for 2 minutes. Scrape bowl often. Add eggs, chocolate and food coloring and beat for 2 more minutes. Pour into prepared pans and bake for 30 - 35 minutes. Cool and frost with Wheathearts Chocolate Frosting.
