of Elvyn and Patti Bell, the
last home on the right-hand
tide at the top of West Water
Street, won the first Yard of
the Month Award in the civic
beauttfication campaign cur
rently being conducted by the
Heppner Chamber of Com
merce and the Heppner Gar
den Club.
The selection committee
from the Carden Club, chaired
by Irene Swanson, unanimous
ly agreed that the Bells' yard
should be the first to have the
sign planted on its street side.

and rented the old Graham
Wightman Dairy house on the
highway just beyond the mill
for several years. In 1976 they
bought their large hillside lot
from Randy Lott. They had a

there which they have individ
ualized by adding a chimney,

upper side and down below the
back of their home. They have
not spent a great deal of
money but have certainly
contributed much In artistic
savvy and in careful work.
Elvyn said they had really
only purchased a few shrubs
out of pocket. They have
hauled in heavy bark, beauti
ful clean bedding stones and
several large exciting old-tree
forms. The steps leading down
to the lower back terraces are
sawed circles from large logs.

Community College.
After that day. classes with
insufficient enrollment will be
cancelled. Students wishing to

offered by BMCC may do so by

Both Elvyn and Patti Bell
are employed fulltime by the
Kinzua Corporation. He has
worked with the mill for 22
years and she has worked with
the corporation for 18 years.
They are the parents of two
adult sons who have not really
lived in Heppner. Their older
son is a Portland State
University graduate and the
other son is from Western
Oregon State College at Mon
mouth. Everyone who sees the
landscaping done by this
energetic, artistic couple will
be very pleased to view how
they have transformed a raw
hillside into a yard of such
delightful beauty in less than
six years.
Charlie Rawlins
wins triple
tourney honors
Charlie Rawlins of Heppner,
who is employed by the Bend
Country Club during summer
months, was the first triple
winner in the Pendleton Coun
try Club tournament two
weeks ago.
Rawlins has played colleg
iate golf several years for the
Western Kentucky University.
He began his golf career in
Heppner and is currently the
Oregon left-hand champion.
Al Nistad and John Shaw
also placed well at the
tournament.

Students wishing to register
in person may come to the
Admissions Office in Morrow
Hall to complete the process.
Tuition for students from
Umatilla and Morrow counties
is $13 per credit hour. Students
who register for six credit
hours or more are considered
full-time summer term stu
dents and are eligible for
college insurance and equili
zation payment.

The bride-elect graduated from Pendleton High School in
1978 and attended BMCC and WWCC. She is employed at the
Bread Board, Pendleton.
Schiller, a 1977 graduate of Heppner High School, attended
OIT. He is employed with VEY Ranches. Echo.
The couple plan to be married July 18 at St. Mary's
Catholic Church. Pendleton.
