close victory over the Eagles,
55 to 49.
The first quarter ended as a
tie between Wahtonka and
Heppner, wilh a total of 13
points apiece.
The second quarter slowed
down a little as the Fillies
tightened up their defense and
led this quarter wilh 4 field
goals and 3 free throw shots.
The Eagles, left a little
behind, scored 3 hoops. Half
time score was Heppner. 24, to

small comeback, but not big
enough to stop the Fillies from
their gallop. The Eagles
topped the Fillies in this
quarter with 6 buckets and 3
free throw shots for a total of

Jay Hayes Drives
Jeff Orr scored 24 points and
grabbed 13 rebounds to lead
the Heppner High boys junior
varsity to a 62-44 win over
Umatilla Friday night in
Heppner.
The win was the fifth in a
row at home for the Mustangs,
and pushed their season's
record to 6-4.
Fifteen of Orr's 24 points
came in the first half, as
Heppner led 21-5 after one
quarter and 39 20 at halftime.
He was ll-for-20 from the
field, hud five assists, four
steals, and lead Coach Brent

The Cards kept up with the
Rangers in the first quarter
and at the end of the quarter
the scoreboard showed Dufur
ahead by only 3. 10-13.

Cards played Helix and the JV
boys were victorious. 37-33.
over the Grizzlies.
The first quarter was low
scoring as lone took a 4-3 lead
in 5th straight

Backing up Orr were Marty
Britt with 11 points and Harry
Groshens with 10. Jay Hayes
and Greg Connor scored 7
points apiece for Heppner.

little better as the Mustangs
gained a two-point comeback
with 4 field goals and 4 foul
shots, good for 12 points.
Wahtonka still in the lead
scored 6 goals and 3 free throw
shots, good for 15 points in the
second. The score at the end of
the half was Eagles. 31. to
Mustangs. 22

The second quarter was
close as the Cards outscored
Helix bv one to take a 15-13
lead into the locker room at

"We played very well,
except for the fouls." said
Eggers. "The kids used their
heads and took Umatilla out of
the game in the first half. Jeff
Orr had one of his best games
and Marly Britt gave us a
great lift off the bench with his
best game."
The Mustangs host Pilot
Rock Friday at 4: 30 and travel
to Sherman County Saturday
for a 4:30 game.

Cardinal girls played Helix.
The Cards were defeated
31-46.
The Grizzlies jumped out to
a 6-17 first quarter lead. In the
second quarter the Cards
outscored Helix 8-5. but the
halftime score was still 14-22
in favor of the Grizzlies.
The Cards were outscored
badly in the third quarter as
they only scored 5 points. The
Grizzlies advanced their lead
to 19-41 to start the fourth
quarter.

the Cardinals played Dufur on
their home floor. The JV boys
were victorious. 59-51.
The Cardinals took an early
lead as they outscored the
Rangers, 17-12. in the first
quarter. In the second quarter
the Cards moved their lead to

In the third quarter the
Cards were outscored by one
lo make the score. 42-36. in
favor of the Cardinals. The
last quarter was pretty close
as the Cards scored 17 points
to take a 59-51 win over the
