The Heppner swimmers were awarded the Sportsman ship Trophy during the Hood River meet held June 28 and ..'.. But the sportsmanship tro phy wasnt all they brought back. Kelly Bergstrom in the 13-14 year-old girls category landed 1st place in the 133 Meter Indep. Medley; 2nd place in the 100 Meter Breast- 14 join in Men's Play Fourteen golfers participat ed in Men's Sunday Morning Play at Willow Creek Country Club. Winners were: first low gross-C.C. Carmichael, second-Don Lott. Carmichael shot a 68 and Lott 69 for the eighteen holes. First low net was Earl Norris with a 50 and Harold Kerr was second with a score of 51. Bob Jepsen had 27 putts, fewest of the field. .Harold Kerr had the longest drive and KP. was won by C.C. Car michael. Sunday, July 13, the dub will host golfers from Echo. Both men and women will compete. 18 turn out for Fourth Flag tourney Inclement weather held down the usual numbers, but 18 golfers still turned out for the Fourth of . July Flag ,. Tournament and Family Bar- -becue at Willow Creek Coun try Club. Bev Gunderson placed first ' in women's competition, fol lowed by Lois Hunt, second, and Juanita Carmichael, third. Harold Kerr won the men's competition. Earl Nor ris placed second and C.C. Carmichael, third. KP. awards were won by Eddie and Bev Gunderson. Lois Hunt and Dorian Forrar had the longest drives of the evening. Carol Norris won the "most honest golfer" award. Dick and Marilyn Bigelow and John and Linda Shaw were in charge of the event. Swim lessons begin July 15 The first session of swim ming lessons at the Heppner Pool for beginners through swimmers is scheduled to begin July 15. Swimming instructor Scott McEwen said that the begin ner's category has been filled for the first session. The second session has been tentatively scheduled to begin August 5. At that time, McEwen said, an "under five" beginners session will be included. Parents of children enrolled in this category will be allowed to participate. Junior lifeaaving and senior lifesaving classes will be scheduled later this summer, said McEwen. lone woman on OSU honor roll Jan A. Peterson, lone, a member of Chi Omega Soror ity, was on the spring term honor roll at Oregon State with, a GPA of 3.78. She is a sophomore majoring in home economics and education. Jan will be participating in an exchange program through Oregon State the fall semester of this year. She will be attending West Chester State University in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She will return to Oregon State winter term and finish her schooling there. stroke; 2nd place in the 100 Meter Freestyle; 3rd place in the 100 Meter Backstroke; 3rd place in the 200 Meter Free style and 3rd place in the 100 Meter Butterfly Heidi Samples, in the 11-12 year-old-girls category, won 2nd place in the 66 Meter Backstroke (Heidi was clock ed 17 hundredths of a second behind first place, and the first and second place scores were only 4 tenths of a second from "A" time) ; and 6th place in the 133 Meter Indep. Medley. Shelley Biddle from Hep pner in the U-12 year-old-girls category swam to sixth place in the 66 Meter Butterfly. The Heppner girls U-12 ycar-old-relay team landed 6th place In the 266 Meter 'Medley; 6th place in the 266 Meter Freestyle Relay; and 6th in the 266 Meter Medley Relay. Regular Ladies' Day Play was held July 1 at Willow Creek Country Club with 22 women participating." Winers in the morning sessions were: low gross-Eddl Skow; first low net-Fran Crook, second low net-Norma French; least putU-Bev Wil son; and most 8's-Luclle Peck.
