Heppner city police man who has announced his candidacy as an independent. In the May 20 election. Englert received 188 Republi can write-in votes and 112 Democratic votes. Although not officially running in the Primary, Rathbun collected 83 Republican votes and 61 Democratic votes. The swimming pool fee schedule for season swimmers is as follows: pre-school are free, grades 1-6 35 cents, grades 7-12 60 cents, and adults 85 cents. Season tickets for grades 1-6 are $7. grades 7-12 $12. adults $17. and family $30. If there Is any change in the date of opening, there will be notices posted at the lone store, post office, and school. furnishing a new market and providing new employment. The feedlot itself is expected to employ 30 people and there will also be employment in the construction of the feedlot. Construction is expected to take from 90 to 120 days. - Simplot will build the feedlot on 50 acres. It will house 30.000 cattle on concrete slabs. The concrete will be sprayed with water that is recycled. Man ure and liquid waste from the cattle will be recycled and treated and used in food for the animal '.and fertilizer for crops grown ,to feed the animals. "Simplot hopes to make it a model showcase for, all feed lots." that are built in the future. McEIIigott said. In an effort to speed up the permit process, Seeger met with officials of Simplot. the Department of Commerce and the Department of Environ mental Quality last Saturday. ' Simplot was able to deal directly in one room with all teh permit agencies which should speed up the process from three to five weeks, Seeger said. the only candidate. In the race for . County Treasurer, Alice Vance will face Margo Sherer. Greg Sweek is unopposed, so far, for County Assessor and Dave Krumbein Is the only candidate for County Survey or. In the fall election, voters will see the names of Justices of the Peace Charlotte Gray and Ernest Jorgensen on the ballot but both of those candidates are unopposed. All of the elected positions are for four-year terms except the county judge and justice of . the peace positions, which are for six years. Precinct committee persons were elected May 20. For the Boardman Precinct, F.E. "Ed" Glen and Kather ine L. Dean (Republicans) and E.S. "Buddy" Toadvin have been elected. Toadvin was a write-in candidate who Democratic ticket. Two other write-in candidates, Willurd L. Miller of Irrigon and Sara E. Wilson of the Northeast Heppner Precinct, have been nominated as a Democratic committeeperson but have yet to accept the nomination. For Hardman's Preclndt, Kenneth and Mildred Wright (Republicans) and Thomas Huston (Democrat ) have been elected. In the lone Precinct, Rabert L. Jepsen and Irene Holtz (R) and Dale Conklin (D) have been elected. Lexington's Precinct will have Steve and Cathy Peck (R) and Mike Sweeney (D) will represent that area. N.W. Heppner .will have Terry and Karen Thompson (R) and Jerry Healy and Ida Lynn (D). S.W. Heppner will have Ned Clark and Avon Melby (R) and Harold Peck and Mary E. accepted a nomination to the Bryant. (D). f i Bussing discussed The need for more effective scheduling of the county senior citizens' bus, including regular trips to Hermiston and Pendleton, won discussed at the recent meeting of the Morrow County Senior Citi zens' Advisory Council. Less than a quorum attend ed. The session was held In the Columbia Bunin Electric Co operative Association's board oom, May 27. County Transportation Chairman Truman Messenger and member Paul Jones discussed the use of the bus. They brought up the necessity for better scheduling. It was agreed to use the bus on June 7 to transport persons from Heppner and Lexington to the community auction in lone, and on July 9, to take citizens and handicapped persons ot Cutsforth Park for a noon picnic. Use of the bus for scheduled trips to nearby cities such as Hermiston and Pendleton, will be considered. Rollin Reynolds, Pendleton, director of the Area Agency on Aging, reported that the Homcmaker Program is pro viding fine help to seniors in the area. Its director, Sue Jepsen, had been away for a short time to attend her son's college graduation. Reynolds also reported on some changes in the Older Americans Act, on the "280 Report" Forms, and spoke of prospects for the 19H1 fiscal yeur. Reports were heard on the activity of the three county mealsites. It was pointed out that there are now 18 mealsit es in the five-county area, because a new site at Echo is now providing meals on Wed nesday noons. Changes in the organiza tion's by-laws were discussed and a complete voting on them will betaken through the mail. Theta Lowe reported for the Committee on Nominations, stating it was recommended that the present officers serve the council for another year. Rollin Reynolds spoke about the need for local participa tion in the White House Conference on Aging at Town Hall-type of meetings. It was agreed that a meeting, which would Involve representatives from this county and Gilliam and Wheeler Counties, should be scheduled for early Sept ember and might be held at the Lexington Grange, prob ably on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Hospital Notes Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner had four patients admitted within the past week ending June 2. Katherine Johnson of Kim berly and Joann Carlson of Heppner have been discharg ed and Edith Matthews of lone and Alberta Kindall of Hep pner were still In the hospital Monday afternoon.
