Otherwise they should be at Ruggs by 9:30. The Ride will be 22 miles from Ruggs to lone city park. There will be water stops along the way and a hotdog feed at the park at the end of the ride. Prizes will be two $50 bonds, one for the boy and one for the girl turning in the most money by May 28. Everyone, turning in at least $25 by May 28 will be awarded a Cystic Fibrosis T-shirt. Money must be turned in to Donna Weed at the Elemen tary School. Cystic Fibrosis is the num ber one genetic killer of children and is second only to cancer. In 1955, most patients died before they reached school age. Now, thanks to research, treatment and education, a child has a 50 percent change of living to age 19. The ultimate goal is to find a cure for this hereditary disease. Tax errors can be corrected Income tax return filing season is over now that April 15 has passed. Heppnerite in Pacific Navy Chief Aviation Elec tronics Technician Grant S. Carter, son of Ola M. Grosh ens of 380 N. Gilmore, Heppner, has departed for the Western Pacific and recently participated in exercise "Rimpac 80" in the Pacific Ocean. He is a member of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 116 based at the Miramar Naval Air Sta tion, San Diego. While de ployed, his squadron is em barked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation operating as a unit of the U.S. 7th Fleet. "Rimpac 80" was the se venth in a series of major Fleet exercises involving "rim of the Pacific" nations. Forty-one ships, 200 aircraft and 20,000 sailors and airmen from Australia, Canada, Ja pan, New Zealand and the U.S. participated. The exercise was designed to test and improve combat readiness of the units in most aspects of maritime warfare. Anti-surface, anti-air and anti submarine warfare were practiced;alongwithat-sea replenishment and opposed transits. Also, a weapons firing was conducted at the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands, Hawaii. VAW-116 flies the E-2B "Hawkeye" early warning aircraft. The "Hawkeye" is 1 outfitted with an electronically-developed radar system that is capable of long range detection and identification of airborne targets.
