Miller are moving this week to Hcrmiston where they have purchased a home and he Is employed. Families can raise 50 pheasant chicks keep half, rest go free Irrigon news : Area families interested in raising pheasant chicks to turn loose into the wilds at 10 weeks may contact Glen Ward, area biologist for the Department Fish & Wildlife. He said families may have up to 50 chicks. They may .keep half of the chicks but must turn the remainder loose at the age of 10 weeks. Pheasant eggs also may be given. The birds will he delivered in Heppner by the middle of May. "To raise phetinnnl chicks gives kids a responsibility, " Ward commented. obtained for hatching, with the chicks to be raised. Ward said the pheasant stock and eggs will come from the state hatchery at Corvalis, where 20,000 pheasants are grown yearly. He said 2,000 chicks have been allocated for this pnrt of eastern Oregon. Previously, only hens were a t avs Wilson 922-3352 BACK FROM WASHINGTON. Morrow County Commis sioner Warren McCoy re turned from Washington, D.C., Saturday after spending the week there. He accompanied five men representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars from Oregon, and Gary Roth of Scappoose, the Oregon winner of the Voice of Democracy speech contest. Roth received an expense paid trip to the capital to compete in the national con test for a prize of $1,400. However, a student from New York was the winner. This is the same contest in which Joe Daltoso of Boardman won in the local district. The winners from the var ious states were given a tour of Washington, DC, and visited in the offices and talked with the senators and congressmen from their home states. A banquet was given for the winners and representatives. An estimated 2,500 people attended. The banquet which was sponsored by the Veter ans of Foreign Wars and the women's auxiliary. In the interest of Morrow County, Commissioner McCoy visited the National Associa tion of Counties. He was vitally interested, he said, in the subject of revenue shar ing. STVDEXT WORKSHOP A workshop of junior and senior high school students was to be held Monday, March 10, at the Assembly of God Church in Irrigon concerning teen prob lems. It was headed by Carolyn Holt and organized by the Morrow County Juvenile Ad visory Board and the Chil- . dren's Services Division. Some of the subjects consi dered were "Drug Aware ness" with a State Police trooper leading the discus sion; a film on "Coping with Parents"; alcohol abuse; teen-age pregnancy; sexua lity ; and cults, which was to be led by the Methodist minister from Heppner, the Rev. Mike Sheridan. GOING TO DENVER Bruce Buchanan, formerly of Irrigon and a Riverside High School graduate, has been trans ferred to a Science Research Center in Denver, Colo, by the Marathon Oil Co. Buchanan has been em ployed by Marathon Oil Co. on Trading Bay in Alaska since 1976 after his graduation from Oregon State University. He worked in the laboratory of the oil processing company. Marathon Oil is also provi ding a home for Buchanan and his wife in Denver. Bruce Buchanan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Buchanan of Irrigon. New school opens doors in Boardman Sam Boardman Elementary School opened its doors Tues day to approximately 320 students, according to school superintendant Matt Doherty. Teachers and volunteer workers moved desks, black boards and other equipment to the new school from the overcrowded rooms at A.C. Houghton Elementary School in Irrigon. New equipment that was being stored at A C. Houghton also had to be taken out of boxes and set up at Sam Boardman Eementary. Doherty said the school is done except for five rooms in the ' building that are 80 percent completed.
