TWELVE The Heppner Gazette-Times. Heppner. Oregon. Thursday, March IH(t Morrow County budget committee searches for wisdom (Continued from page 1) The budget committee over ruled the committee that recently looked into the possi bility of combining the two courts. That committee ruled to keep the justice system in the county as it is but the budget committee overturned that decision and will cut the Heppner justice position to four days. The county court will adopt that policy at its next meeting. There was also considerable discussion Monday about the county clerk's request to add one more full-time position to her staff. Barbara Bloodsworth has 1 positions in her office and she wants 2'j positions. This will add another $9,342 to her budget. Bloodsworth said with the addition of the district court, there will be extra filing five days a week. She said circuit filing has increased and so another position is needed. She also said they all should be paid on the same pay scale. "All my girls have to know how to do everything," she said. "Sadie (Parrish, the preced ing clerk) should have had more help." "She never asked for it." budget member Daniel Creamer said. Commissioner Krebs said all of the employees should not be paid on the same step scale because of the new policy of salaries the county is adopt ing. Rloodsworth said her half time employee will probably not come back at the new pay scale because it would mean a cut in pay. Commissioner McCoy said the countv does not want to lose an experienced employee so the budget committee agreed to make an exception and allow her to receive the higher pay sacle. "I was in their same snoes 10 years ago and I know how it is." Bloodsworth said. "I would rather my girls made a decent living wage than to see my salary increased that high." The budget committee also talked with Sylvia McDaniel, county treasurer. The com mittee wants the county treasury department to have banks bid on the interest it will pay to have the county put its funds in the bank. Budget committee member Terry Thompson said "We should keep the money in the county even if we could get more (in interest) somewhere else." The committee asked Sylvia McDaniel how she thinks the coiiiiiiiiiiiK r Uie tax coiit'iMor and the treasurer will work. She said she did not know how an unexperienced person will be able to do it. "1 don't think people realize what a burden being the treasurer is," she answered.
