Two boys were sleeping in a 17-foot vacation trailer which was nearly destroyed by fire. According to Fire Chief Don Adams, it was probably "totalled out." The trailer was gutted inside although the outer shell was not destroyed. The boys es caped without harm. The vacation trailer be longed to Tom DeBrie and was located in the River View Trailer Court, near the De Brie's mobile home. ROC K-A-THON The young people of the Irrigon Assembly of God are having a "Rock-a-thon" next Sunday, Feb. 17. to raise money for orchestra books to match the churches hymnals. Possibly you have heard of a "Read-athon" or a "Jog-a-thon" but what is a "Rock-a-thon"0 The young people will be seated in rocking chairs and while rocking will be rolling pennies in 50-cent rolls from the gallon of pennies they have collected for the Speed-the-light missionary giving. Pastor Allen Gorda nier said. "You could call it a "Rock and Roll-a-thon." The church is having a pot luck dinner that day also. HOW TO PRAY A group of women from several churches of the community gathered at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Monday and Thurs day of the past two weeks in a study group learning to pray. The tape recording listened to was by Evelyn Christian sen, a Baptist minister's wife. A condensation of one day's study was concerning the six S's of praying. 1. Subject by subject all praying in one accord for one subject . 2. Short prayer a long prayer may inhibit a shy person . 3. A simple prayer in teaching others one sentence on a certain subject is more effective. 4. Specific requests you Packwood wants 'senior citizen' aides Senator Rob Packwood has announed he is seeking nomi nations for his annual Senior Intern program. Two senior citizens from Oregon will be chosen to come to Washington during a two week period in May. As interns, they will work with the senator's staff on day-today matters and longrange policies that affect the elderly. Through a series of special briefings, tours, and lectures, the interns also will he able to increase their knowledge of government programs and pending legislation of interest to seniors. I'm looking for active, invoked senior citizens who will help represent the con cerns of Oregon's seniors in Washington." the senator sta ted it won't be a vacation." Packwood emphasized, "but it will be an excellent opportu nity to get a first-hand look at the inner workings of the federal government. My pro gram for the last two years has been very successful, so I'm anxious to begin the selection process for this year's interns." Nominees for internships should be in good physical health. Individuals may nomi nate themselves. All nominations should in clude the name, address, phone number and back ground of the nominee, along with a brief outline explaining why he or she is being nominated. Taxpayers who received unemployment compensation during 1979 may have to include part or all of the payments in their incofie on their 1979 federal tax return according to a new law, explains the Internal Revenue Service. In order for a taxpayer's unemployment compensation to be included in income, the amount of the unemployment received plus his adjusted gross income before any exclusion for disability in come must be greater than the "base amount" for that parti cular filing status. The base amount is $20,000 for a single person and $25,000 for married persons filing jointly. A married person filing separately has no base amount, unless the couple was separated all year. If the income does not exceed the base amount, none of the, unemployment compensation wil be included in income, according to IRS. If the income is greater than the base amount, however, the amount to be included in income is one-half of the difference between the tax payer's income and his base amount, but not greater than the actual amount of unem ployment received. Recipients of unemploy ment compensation from the State of Oregon have been issued Forms 1099-UC from the Employment Division .
