' J Sophomore Dorian Forrar came off the bench to score 12 points making fi-of-7 shots to lead the Heppner Mustangs to Shriner named Heppner senior Dale Hoi land was named earlier this week to the East-west Shrine All-Star team that will play its annual game in August. Holland will be an offensive end for the team. Jim Parker and Joedy Marlatt were named as alter nates in case members of the first team are not able to play for any reason. an exciting 70-52 win over the Condon Blue Devils. "It was probably one of our better games of the season," admitted Mustang head coach Dale Holland. The Mustangs will try to extend the short win streak when the team travels to Stanfield tomorrow night and then plays at home against Sherman in a make-up game Saturday at 7 p.m. The girls varsity game against Sher man will start at 5 p.m. Heppner did beat Stanfield earlier this season 69-54 in a home game. The game with Condon was never close as Heppner had its running game flowing in high gear from the opening tipoff. Heppner led 19-9 at the end of the first quarter as Jim Parker looked unstoppable as the senior forward scored twice on offensive rebounds , and twice on fast breaks for a total of 9 points. The Mustangs continued to score at will in the second quarter as Heppner looked looked as if it could beat any team in the league that night. An outside shot by Dale Holland made it 27-15 and then Forrar tame to score three straight baskets on an assist from Curt Day, a shot inside and on a fast break with an assist pass from Parker to make the score 35-15. Heppner decided to practice its stall offense with two minutes left in the half so the halftime score was only 36-17. Rick Cole and Jim Launer led the Mustangs in the third quarter with six and four points respectively as the team led 50-30 at the end of three quarters. The balanced Heppner at tack on offense kept it up in the fourth period as Forrar came back in to score 6 points, Launer scored 4 more and Larry Palmer came in and ignited the crowd with his hustle as he made 7 points, 5 on free throws. Parker scored 12 points in the game, Holland 10 and Cole 10. Stefani scores 21 as lone beats Helix Jim Lankford's Heppner City Basketball League team finished the first half of the season undefeated with a 7-0 record after beating Laverne Van Marter's team 71-63 Sunday. Lankford scored 20 points, Dave Allstott 18 and Dave McLachlan 16. Van Marter led the losers with 25 points and Mark Huddleston scored 16. Bill Meyers scored 30 points, Steve Powell 19 and Dana Heidemann 10 to lead Powell's team to a 67-59 win over Tick Riverside JV wins The lone Cardinals boys basketball team handled the Grizzlies from Griswold of Helix in a makeup game in lone last week 59-41. Senior Dennis Stefani scored 21 points to lead the home team. He scored 10 of his points in the first quarter as Griswold girls beat lone Griswold of Helix broke open a close girls basketball game in the second half to " beat the lone Cardinals 38-18 last week in lone. Griswold led at halftime 15-11 but outscored the home Cardinal team 13-3 in the third quarter and 10-4 in the fourth to win the game by 20 points. Michelle LaRue led lone with 8 points and 11 rebounds. Martha McElligott scored 6, Anita Palmer 2 and Elizabeth M( Klligott 2. Playing but not scoring were Diann Morter, Margaret Doherty, Lisa Mey ers and Tammy Holtz. Unbeaten team leads league in statistics Midway through the Hepp ner City League basketball season, Jim Lankford's team is leading the league in both scoring, with 494 points, and defense, giving up 297 points. Laverne Van Marter's team is second in scoring with 417 points and second in defense with 329 points. Steve Powell's team is third in scoring with 3K9 points and fifth in defense with 363 points. Mike Smith's team is fourth in scoring witn 338 points and third in defense wilh 341 points. Rick Johnston's team is fifth in scoring with 331 points but last in defense with 401. Don Barber's team is sixth in offense with 313 points and seventh in defense with 396 points. Les Schwab is seventh in offense with 308 points and sixth in defense with 379 points. Roger Britt's team is last in offense with 280 points and fourth in defense with 354 points. Jim Lankford leads the league in scoring, averaging 21.1 points a game followed by Laverne Van Marter with 19 a game, Gary Watkins with 18.4, Dave McLaughlin with 17.5, Bill Meyers with 16.1, Dave Allstott with 15.5, Steve Powell with 14.4, Gary Van Arsdale with 14.2, Ron Green with 13.3, Mark Huddleston with 11.9 and Steve Rhea, Dana Heidemann and Dave Eckman average 10 points a game each. lone built up a 16-2 lead near the end of the first period. Helix came back to make the score 20-8 at the end of one but lone outscored them in the second quarter 19-10 to take a commanding 38-18 lead at' halftime. The two teams played evenly in the second half but the winner had already been decided. Robin LaRue scored 12 points, Mark Patton had 10 points and 11 rebounds, Shawn LaRue scored 5, Jerry Riet mann 4, Treve Peterson 2, . Ralph Morter 3 and Jim McCabe 2. Glen Krebs, Les Thompson and Paul Snow played but did not score. The Heppner JV team lost to Riverside Monday night in a home game 70-54. "They are the best team we have played this year," Coach Brent Eggars said. "We had a pretty good effort but we made too many mistakes and made too many fouls." Riverside won the game at the foul line making 24-of-37 shots. Heppner made a perfect 10-of-lO. Heppner will get a rematch with the Pirates when the team travels to Boardman for a game Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Ken Stookey led the team in scoring with 13 points, Don Lott had 9, Brett Sherer and Earl Hammond 8 each, Greg Sweeney 6, Joe Mollahan 4, and Robert Bier, Joe Stru thers and Groshens scored two apiece. lone JV beat Helix in comeback lone J.V.'s beat Helix 44-36. lone was down at halftime by five points but came back to win by eight. High scorer for lone was Donnie Taylor wijh 16 points. Other scorers were Denny Starr 7, Tim Patton 6, Craig Gutierrez 6, Jeff Hams 3, Barney Rea 2, J. McElligott 2, and M.
