December 6, 1979 Three bowlers roll 300 Barbara Howard bowled the high game of the season with a 252 to lead the ladies in the Sparetimer's Bowling League. Mrs. Howard rolled six straight strikes to start the game then bowled a spare, a strike, a spare and then two strikes in the 10th frame to end her game. She usually aver ages about 131 a game. Two other bowlers also shot over 200 last week. Marie Turner had a 202 and Jo Pettyjohn bowled an even 200 game. The Morrow County Grain Growers team remains in first place with a 37lt-Wb record followed by Coast-to-Coast at 34'2-1712. Peterson's Jewelry is third at 31-21 and Buck num's Tavern fourth at 25 v2 26 1 2 . Jerry's Mobil is creeping up in the standings with a 25-27 record and Central Market is 22-30. Gardner's Men's Wear is 19' 2-32' 2 and Sears is 13-39. Despite her 252 game, Mrs. Howard was not the leader in the high individual series. Santa ready to answer children's requests Mail boxes have been set up by the Lions Club in the Post Office buildings in Heppner, Lexington and lone for chil dren who want to send letters to Santa Claus. The Lions members have made arrangements with the man at the north pole to call all the children who put letters in Santa's mailbox Dec. 18 and 19. Morrow timber receipts amount to $28,615.13 Commission approves Port of Morrow grant Morrow County has re ceived $28,615.13 as its share of the state's timber sever ance tax. The Oregon Department of Revenue distributed the money as a quarterly pay ment under the Western and Eastern Oregon Severance Tax Programs. Nineteen western Oregon counties received $11,628,052. Sixteen eastern Oregon coun tis received $856,141, A grant of $30,500 has been approved for the Port of Morrow by the state Econo mic Development Commis sion. Buddy Toadvin, port mana ger, said the money will be used to extend the Marine Drive drainage structure. Work will start next week, he said, although the grant won't be received "for three or four months." The port had requested $125,000, Toadvin said.
