Teachers sought for next term Fall Evening Division clas ses for Blue Mountain Com munity College are into the fourth week in cities in south Morrow County but Nancy Brownfield, BMCC coordina tor for south Morrow County, is already looking for teachers and subjects for the winter term. Although the winter term for the evening division does not start until Jan. 7, Brown field must have a schedule of classes and teachers sent into the college by Nov. 16. Brownfield can offer eve ning classes in Heppner, Lexington and lone but she likes Lexington so students can come from both ways. Each class needs 10 people, an instructor and a place to meet. Brownfield said she usually can find the place and a teacher but the students have to let her know what types of classes they want to take. "If someone wants a special class, I need to know as soon as possible so I can get things ready," Brownfield said. She also is interested in finding teachers for the winter term. "Anyone who would like to teach can," she said. "No teaching certificate is re quired. Only a desire and expertise in an area is required. Any subject matter can be taught from arts and crafts to electronics." Brownfield said beginning teachers are usually paid about $8 an hour for work directly with the students. Three types of classes can be offered. Skill upgrade classes (like cake decorating), com munity interest classes (like dancing), and BMCC transfer classes (like History). "Teachers can apply by contacting me and I will interview them and send the application to the college," Brownfield said. "The college may want to screen some teachers depending on the course subject." Brownfield can be contacted by calling 676-5039. Seminars aimed at high school science students Computers to volcanoes will be covered in special science seminars offered by Blue Mountain Community College especially for high school students in the Pendleton, Hermiston and Heppner areas.
