Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, August 23, 1979 Prizes awarded women golfers in tourneys at Willow Creek Club Women golfers of the Willow Creek Country Club recently completed two golf tourna ments for local members. On Thursday, August 16, 18 participated in a Partner's Medal Play Tournament. The following prizes were awar ded. Lois Hunt and Eddi Skow won the first low gross, Annetta Klinger- and Jan Thorn won second low gross; Harriett Evans and Roxi Lovgren were winners in the third low gross. Winning the first low net were Pat Edmundson and Linda Shaw, second low net, Dorris Graves and Fran Crook and third low net, Muriel Palmer and Bev Wilson. Long drive was won by Linda Shaw. Lota Tibbies turned in the closest to the pin along with Pat Edmundson. Special prizes were won by Joyce Winter, Barbara Cuts forth, Sharon Harrison, Mar tha Peterson and Sandi Han na. In recent weeks, the women also participated in the first match play tournament to be held for the ladies' group. Again, 18 women participated. Trophies were awarded to the following golfers. First flight champion was Lois Hunt, first flight runner-up, Pat Edmundson, first flight consolation, Eddi Skow; second flight, first place, Sharon Harrison, second flight runner-up, Dorothy Hawkins and second flight consolation, Betty Carlson. The regular Ladies' Day play will continue through the month of September with groups meeting for play at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each Tuesday. Physicals slated for school athletes Dr. Joseph Gifford will be giving physicals to athletes turning out for sports this year at Heppner and lone High Schools next Monday and Tuesday nights. Any boys and girls planning to turn out should be at Heppner High School at 7 p.m. Monday night and at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at lone High School, according to HHS Athletic Director John Spor seen. Football practice started Monday, August 20 at district high schools in preparation for the fall season. I.M.. placed second, in the 50 yd. breaststroke, 41.6, 5th in the 50 yd. freestyle, 34.4, second in the 50 yd. butterfly, 39.6, second in the 50 yd. butterfly. 39.6, 7th in the 100 yd. freestyle, 1:19.4 and plac ing in the 50 yd. backstroke, 47 seconds. Beth Forrar tied for third in the 100 yd. Red Cross plaques now ready Red Cross swimming certi ficates are now available at the Heppner Swimmhg Pool for those who passed their swim tests. Champion if The Women's Nail Driving Contest was won Sunday by Charlene Nix of Heppner at the Morrow County Fair and she received a specially designed trophy from the Event Chairman Gary Grieb. Charlene set a new record of four swings from last year's six. One woman chose a two-handed hit, while most contestants stayed with the traditional single hand swing.
