Sawmill breaks July production record for Kinzua Corp. The day and swing shift production crews at the Kin zua Sawmill in Heppner have surpassed an all time produc tion record at the plant, handling 5,002,000 board feet of lumber for the month of July. Operations Manager Harry Kennison expressed apprecia tion on behalf of the manage ment of the Kinzua Corpora tion, "I want to commend the sawmill crews for achieving their production goals." Kennison said the bugs are being worked out of the new sawmill which opened up last year, improving running time and decreasing the down time of the assembly line. Signs noting the production record have been posted in the cafeteria and sawmill floor. In August, 1978, the new computerized sawmill opened. Personnel and Safety Man ager Dan Sweeney said the production record is the result of team effort and hard work by the day and swing shift workers. Motorized glider flys over Heppner streets A motorized hang glider piloted by Rick Peterson of lone created soijie excitement Sunday night about 8 p.m. in Heppner. Peterson's yellow glider could be heard by onlookers throughout his estimated 20 minute flight and people stopped to watch the 22 year old glider pilot circle the city. His mother, Mrs. Robert Peterson, said Monday that Peterson took off and landed from the Heppner High School field. When he landed he was greeted by some of the observers. Peterson was enjoying his day off from the wheat harvest as a combine oper ator. Mrs. Peterson said the craft is now powered by a Soar master motor which allows him to cruise at 35 miles an Friends invited to wedding All friends and relatives are cordially invited to share the day with Barbara Allstott Strahm and Kenneth Lee Howard, as they exchange marriage vows at 2 p.m., Aug. 18, at Cutsforth Cabin. A potluck picnic will follow the ceremony for those who wish to stay. lone class reunion Saturday The classes of 1969 and 1970 of lone High School are holding their class reunion this Saturday, Aug. 11, at the lone Legion Hall. The social hour will begin at 7 p.m., followed by dinner at 8 p.m. At 9:30 p.m., the public is invited for no host cocktails, visiting and dancing to some oldies but goodies. hour and stay up 20 minutes in the air. The section will highlight upcoming fair and rodeo activities and will be sponsor ed by local merchants. 12 pass swim test Twelve youngsters passed their swimming tests at the conclusion of the second session of Red Cross swim ming lessons, according to Heppner Swimming Pool Manager Diane Holland. Passing were swimmers, Paula Plocharsky, Katriana Anderson; beginners; Mark Fishburn, Kristine Fishburn, Bridgett Greenup, Carry Brownfield, John Kindle and Russell Britt and advanced beginners, Annissa Anderson, Mike Van Schoiack, Trent Harrison and Jason Tucker. Deposits show increase Deposits at the Heppner branch of First National Bank of Oregon increased 25.2 percent in the 12-month period ended June 30, 1979. The branch reported de posits of $14,244,000 as of June 30, 1979, compared with $11,377,000 a year earlier.
