Then, with two down, Ted Proctor drilled a single that drove home his brother, Mike, to win the game. Dennis vPeck started the game for the Mustangs, and was relieved by Lionel Wood in the fifth, who was in turn spelled by John Bier in the tenth. The Mustang mounds men gave up only one walk, compared with 10 for the Honkers. But Arlington con nected for 10 hits, compared with four for Heppner. The Mustangs committed only three errors in the 12 innings, compared with five for Arling ton. In addition to Stookey's two hits, singles were tagged by Dennis Peck and Doug Hol land. Moving back to the home field on Saturday, the Mus tangs had another close game on their hands with Wasco. Unfortunately, only the first game of the Wasco double header counted towards league standings. The league opener saw Wasco break into an early lead, picking up four runs in the first inning to one for Heppner. But the Redsides were held scoreless for the next five innings, while Hep pner slowly gained, tieing the scoring in the sixth. Dennis Peck led off the second by drilling a homer into orbit over the right center field fence. Peck doubled in the sixth, as well. Other Heppner hitters included Lionel Wood, Dale Holland and Mike Stookey, each with singles. With the scored tied at 4-4 going into the top of the seventh, Wasco's Randy Snod grass drilled a two-run single, ending the Redsides' scoring at six. In the bottom of the final inning, Heppner loaded the bases but failed to score. All totaled, the Mustangs got four runs on five hits while committing no errors. Wasco's six runs came on as many hits, with the Redsides making three errors. Peck went the distance on the mound for the Mustangs, striking out 10 and walking six. In the second game, Lionel Wood pitched a two-hitter for the Mustangs, striking out six and walking only one in the process. Scoring ended in a 5-0 shutout for Heppner. Dennis Peck hammered out two singles, while Mike Stookey. Ken Stookey and Scott McEwen each drilled lone singles. Freshman John Murray had good day at the plate, tagging a double off the right field fence and hitting a single. Mustang batters flexed their muscles during Tuesday's game against lone, pounding out 14 hits in a 16-6 romp over the Cardinals. Heppner got off to a 2-0 lead in the first, but was caught by lone in the third a six-run inning for the Cards. The Mustangs tied the score in the bottom of the third, and the score remained a 6-6 tie until the bottom of the fifth, when Heppner unleashed seven runs. The Mustangs tallied three more runs in the sixth to ice the game. Dennis Peck was three-for-four at the plate, including a lead-off homer in the bottom of the sixth. Dale Holland got a single and a double in four appearances at the plate, while his brother, Doug, picked up a double and three RBIs. Scott Groshen was two-for-three, with a double and four RBIs. Scott McEwen was three-for-four, including a triple and two RBIs. Other Mustang hitters were Lionel Wood and John Murray, each with singles.
