Legislature tour well received by County women
Want to know what is
happening down at the Legis
lature? Forty three women
from Morrow and Umatilla
counties can tell you! After a
long day in Salem, meeting
with Eastern Oregon legisla
tors, the governor, and visit
ing the Senate and House of
Representatives, as well as
committee hearings, they are
well informed.
Boarding a bus at 5 a.m., the
women arrived in Salem in
time for the opening cere
monies in both the Senate and
House. Lunch in the Blue
Room with Senator Ken Jern
stedt, Representative Bill Bel
lamy, Senator Mike Thorne
and Representative Jack Duff
allowed time for many ques
tions. Following the luncheon,
each had the opportunity to
visit with Governor Atiyeh in
the Governor's Office, as well
as visit committee hearings
and view the county exhibits
and art displays in the Capitol.
What kind of questions do
women ask of the Governor
and their elected legislators?
There were many related to
roads and taxes.
Arrangements for the Extension-sponsored
day in
Salem were made by Mrs.
Mike Thorne and Senator
Thome's secretary, Kathy
Rock.
Those attending from Mor
row County were Virginia
Rosewall, Garnett Huddle
ston, Marge Shade, Mildred
Wright, Mary Wright, Birdine
Tullis and Ms. Courtney.

which allows older members
to spend two full days at the
Legislature.
Housing will be at the 4-H
Sandwiches and

in March study
groups
"Fun with Salads and Sand
wiches" will be the discussion
topic for study groups in
Umatilla and Morrow counties
in April, according to Exten

Saul.
Emphasis in the lesson will
be innovative ways to make
sandwiches and salads more
appealing and more nutri
tious. The use of sprouts to add
interest to meals will be
explained. Demonstrations
will be given on the making of
sprouts from a variety of
seeds. Ways to avoid monot
ony in "brown bag" lunches
will be discussed.
, Mrs. Saul encourages all
interested persons to attend on
of the 24 study groups in the
two-county area. Membership
is not required.
Volunteer leaders who will
teach the lesson recently
received their training from
Mrs. Saul and Birdine Tullis,
Morrow County Extension
program assistant.
Local leaders are: Nancy
Rogers, Pat O'Brien, Irrigon;
Mary Roberts, Betty Hack,
Lexington; Judy Stevens and
