Sara Kingston - Children only.
(Herald photo)
Children's Den
(Continued from Page 7)
as a resident engineer at the
Boardman Coal Fire Plant. For
Tom's wife, this is her first
experience as owner-operator.
Sara had previous experience
working with children's wear, so
calling upon that experience and
her own experience as a mother
of three, she has enjoyed the
close to two years she has spent
as owner-operator of the Child
ren's Den.
"It is a fun kind of shop," Sara
explained. "We have a wonderful
time visiting with the mothers
and their children. There is
nothing like the look on a little
girl's face when she waltzes out
of the dressing room in a darling
frothy pink dress. Even more fun
is all of our grandmother cus
tomers; they just go wild when it
comes to making a decision. More
often than not, they will decide to
take both items."
Raggedy Ann in person will be
at the Children's Den during the
grand opening. She will be in the
store to visit with the children
and to give them special little
gifts. A contest to name the
Children's Den lion will also be
part of the festivities, with the
winner taking home a great, big,
lovable stuffed lion.

Bookstore Fuels
ReadingHabit
Jean Dant must feel like a
child in a candy store.
Mrs. Dant, who owns and
operates the Book Stall, reads
more books in a week than most
people read in a year or longer.
And she does it because she
enjoys it.
"I am a reader, yes," she
admits. "The only reason I own a
bookstore is that I enjoy read
ing." Tve been reading two or
three books a day for as long as I
can remember," she says.
Actually, Mrs. Dant keeps
about four books "going at a
time. If it's a particularly good
novel, I'll read it all the way
through without stopping."
She does most of her reading
while others are sleeping. She
starts at about 10 or 11 p.m. and
continues for several hours "until
I get too tired to read anymore."
One night recently she finished
The Holocaust Covenant, a novel
by Robert Ludlum, and By
Myself, a biography of Laure
Bacall. The next night she fin
ished Proteus, a novel by Morris
West, and did some reading on
two other books.
Although Mrs. Dant considers
herself a speed-reader, she has
never taken a course and doesn't
know how many words per
minute she reads.
She's been an avid reader since
she was about 10 or 11 years old,
growing up in a small town in the
New England area. She remem
bers visiting the town library,
checking out three books a day
(the maximum allowable) except
for Saturdays and Sundays when
it was closed.
So what did she do for reading
material on the weekends?
"They finally got to the point
where they'd let me take some
books home on Friday," she
recalls.
Her biggest enjoyment now
are novels, which she reads "for
just plain relaxing." But she also
reads non-fiction, histories, bio
graphies, etc.
Mrs. Dant claims she's "im
possible to be around" when
deprived of her reading for some
reason. "I am an absolute bear."
Of course, reading a lot of
books comes in handy when a i
customer inquires about a par- !
ticular book. There's a good j
chance Mrs. Dant has read it and
can offer an opinion.
