The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday February 8, 1979 SEVEN
Extension Events-with Birdine Tullis
Spring 4-H activities abound throughout the state for members, leaders
All older youth, whose
enrollments have been turned
in were recently mailed
information concerning three
events planned for spring
months. All three required a
response from those inter
ested in participating. Due
date is Feb. 15.
"Know Your State Govern
ment," April 8-10, Salem,
offers opportunity for two
Morrow 4-H members to have
an inside look at state govern
ment in action, as well as to
meet legislators and other
elected officials. The confer
ence is always of special
interest on the years when the
legislature is in session. Those
eligible to apply are members
in grades 10, 11 and 12. An
additional benefit is meeting
other 4-H members from
across the state. The leaders
council pays expenses of the
two selected to attend the
conference.
A statewide counselor train
ing is scheduled for March
29-April 1, 4-H Center, Salem.
Morrow County may send
three delegates and one adult
to the training, which is
designed as a leadership
session for those who will be
serving as counselors at
county 4-H camps. All 10, 11
and 12th grade 4-H members
are eligible to apply by Feb.
15. Expenses and registration
for this event will also be paid
by leaders council. One adult
may also attend the training.
The special trip for mem
bers in 7 through 12th grades
to the Oregon Coast during
spring vacation should catch
the interest of all 4-H mem
bers. Leaders and parents are
also encouraged to sign up for
this special event, by Feb. 15.
While plans are not com
plete for this special event, we
are sure that it will include a
number of industries unique to
our coast area in the vicinity
of Tillamook, and on up the
coast, with stops at Marine
Science Center, and other
points of interest. Number to
attend will be determined by
transportation available, and
registration is on a first-come
basis.
Any 4-H member whose
enrollments have not been
turned in to the county office
may call 676-9642 to receive
the application forms.

THRIFT WAY
County leaders. The sub
scriptions were a gift from the
leaders council. The 4-H
National News shares ideas
and information relating to
4-H programs nationwide, and
has many suggestions and
ideas for leaders.
The January issue
IFYE Debbie Hoeft as the
"cover girl" as well as a
feature concerning her exper
iences in Hungary. We hope
leaders will share the maga
zine with their club members,
for all had the opportunity to
hear Debbie's reports when
she reported in our county.
Advisory
Committee
receives praise
We salute the following
members who have agreed to
serve as an advisory group to
the 4-H staff and leaders
council. Jeff Bailey, Angie
Evans, Todd Harrison, Tara
Mahoney, Diann Morter,
Marie Van Schoiack and Lori
Witt will meet as a group to
make recommendations and
suggestions concerning the
county-wide program. In ad
dition, they will meet with the
leaders council and serve on
special council committees.
The young representatives
represent all project and
geographic areas in the
county. We look forward to
working with this very special
group of older 4-H members.

Cookbook
correction
Mary Ashbeck called to tell
us that she noted on page 9, the
Beef-N-Kraut recipe is incor
rect. It should call for 4
tablespoons TOMATO paste
(not flour). It is one of Mary's
favorite recipes, and she
thinks everyone will enjoy it.
If there are other recipe
corrections that should be
made in the cookbook, we will
list them if they are called to
our attention. I've tried some
of the recipes, and found them
to be really good.
Meat-a-rama
coming soon
The big spring salute to the

as well as information on each
of the industries. Cowbelles,
Sheep Growers Auxiliary and
people involved in raising
pork will all be there to share
their expertise and loads of
door prizes. Watch for more
details but mark the date,
Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m. at the
Fairgrounds, Heppner.
