"We weren't ready to play (Friday night). We were executing our offense pretty well, but our shots just weren't dropping," said lone Coach Del La Rue. "We were just flat," said the coach. "We didin't play good defense." The night did have several bright spots as Kevin McCabe took down 20 rebounds, "prob ably the best he's done in about two years," according to LaRue. He was followed by Robin LaRue with 11. LaRue and Dennis Stefani shared honors of high point man with 12. Kevin McCabe tallied 11, Gregg Rietmann added 9, while Danny Mc Elligott had six and Shawn LaRue one. Larry Holeman had 22 for the victorious Cougars. Saturday things began to look up for the Redbirds as they sprinted away from the Honkers 18-12 in the- first quarter. But slowly and sure ly, the superior height advan tage the Honkers won out "We just couldn't sustain that," said LaRue of his first quarter lead. "The first quar ter and a half we didn't do too bad. Then they started going inside to Bailey (Arlington's 6'5" center and last year's All-State selection) and we just couldn't stop height like that." Even if the Cards were dealt a rough hand they held on tough. Three Cardinal players went on to score in double figures. Danny Mc Elligott . Dennis Stefani and Gregg Rietmannn each had 10. Robin LaRue and Shawn LaRue each had six, while Kevin McCabe dropped in four. Jim Bailey poured in 24 points to lead the opposition. McCabe was high rebound er, this time with only 7, Rietmann followed closely with 6. Again Coach LaRue said, "It was hard for us to combat that superior height." LaRue was the first to admit Arlington is a "real good ball club. They shot real well (43 per cent) and are one of the strongest teams in the state." Looking ahead to the week end, Cascade Locks faces lone in lone Friday, and lone travels to Cascade Locks Saturday. Hedman daughter Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hedman, Eugene, are the parents of a daughter, Amber Chazzney, 8 lbs., 7 oz., born Jan. 3. She joins a brother, Endy, at home. Wilson son Mr. and Mrs. Danny Lee Wilson, Lexington, are the parents of a son, Jeff Dan, 7 lbs., 7 oz., born Jan. 26, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. "We weren't putting the ball up." she said, "and if you don't put the ball up you can't score." At Echo the difference mainly was free throws. lone hit a scant 4 out of 15 while Echo swished 16 of 26, 10 of those coming from Stacey Snow who scored 14 points. Doug Holland was good for six points, John Bier and Pat Parker, four apiece, with Jeff Sumner sinking two. On Saturday, the Mustang frosh now 5-3 for the season will face Riverside. "really hurts us, especially when we don't even get the front end of one-on-one." Martha and Janet McElli gott shared top billing as high scorers with six each Michelle LaRue and Michelle McElli gott were the other two scorers with five each. The final score at Echo was 36-22. Saturday, at lone, Arlington managed to get the ball inside to 6'2" Teresa Bailey, where the shorter lone team could do nothing to stop her. She scored 20 of 39 points, enabling Arlington to squeeze by lone 39-24. "Both Echo and Arlington were able to get their ball inside and we just couldn't do anything," said Doherty. lone faces a tough climb the rest of the season. Since there is no real leader in the District ladder each game is a "do or die." Michelle LaRue scored eight points in the defeat suffered Saturday night. Janet McElligott was close behind with six, Sandy Thompson, coming off the bench scored four. Coach Doherty compli mented Sandra for having "two real good nights this weekend coming off the bench." Martha McElligott was next in line with three, while Anita Palmer scored two and Margaret Doherty added one. Treve Peter son was the top scorer both nights with 16 of the 59 points against Echo and 14 points in the defeat against Arlington. The JV Cards won Friday and were the only lone team to do so all weekend long. lone JVs overpowered the Echo Cougars 59-35. while Arling ton's jayvees beat lone 66-47. Scoring besides Peterson were Mark Patton with 14 in the Echo game and 12 against Arlington. Jeff Hams had 10 and 8, and Jerry Rietmann 8 against Arlington.
