The entire Cardinal roster scored points during the Wheeler County contest, which lone won handily. VanMarter unbeaten in Town Team League VanMarter maintained its perfect Town Team basketball record during the weekend, making it three in a row with a 64-39 victory over Johnston. Five VanMarter players scored in double figures in the contest, with Darrell Spivey leading the way with 13 points. High scorer for the game, however, was Johnston's Bob Scott, with 15 points. In other Town Team action, Smith defeated the Forest Service team by a 37-23 margin. Smith's scoring was sparked by a 15-point effort by Richard Hamlett. Jim Lankford's dozen points helped bring the Eckman team to a 43-40 squeeker over Lane, while Watkins posted a 38-30 win over Greenup. Town Team action resumes on Sunday night, starting at 5 p.m. in the Heppner High School gym. 4-Wheelers to finalize organization of new club Four-wheel drive enthusiasts are encouraged to attend an organizational meeting for the formation of a 4-wheel drive club. The meeting will be Sunday, Jan. 28, at 1:30 p.m. in the conference room at Columbia Basin Electric Co-op. Organizers of the group have met once and held one play-day which consisted of a "jeep run" in the mountains. Officers for the new club and by-laws are expected to be acted upon at this Sunday's meeting. Persons wanting more information should contact Bill or Linda Hutchinson at 676-9001 or 989-8427. Martha McEUigott played exceptionally well, leading her team in scoring with 13 points, while picking up six steals. Lori Edwards was high rebounder with 10, and along with Michelle and Janet McEUigott, scored three points. Michelle LaRue was good for four and Tammy Holtz put in two. Local youths to compete in special bowling Four Heppner Elementary students will leave for Hills boro this weekend, to take part in a statewide, Special Olympics-sponsored bowling tournament. Making the trip will be Kevin Chick, Tina Carey, Marcie Stookey and Jerry Anderson. In addition to the bowling tournament, the four local youths will take in a tour of the Portland Zoo. Tara Temple of Helix was the games high scorer with 15. Saturday, the Cards didn't fare as well. The girls were never able to shut off Dee Shean of Wheeler, who ended the game with 20 points, 6 of those on free throws. Martha McEUigott was again consistant with 12 points, 10 of those coming in the first quarter. "I think that we overlooked Wheeler," said lone Coach Martha Doherty. Wheeler lost its two top players last year in Peg Hoover and Val Shean. lone couldn't put its act together no matter how hard they tried Saturday. Wheeler County took the win 36-24. Turnout large at 4-Corners' playday Despite bitter cold and falling snow, 58 snowmobiles and their drivers turned out on Jan. 14 for the Four Corners Snowmobile Playday at South Jones Prairie. Frank Halvorsen won the men's obstacle race, with Ron Palmateer and Joe Halvorsen tied for second place in that event. In the race for riders 12 and under, Andy Samples took the top two places, with Lance Journot finishing third. In the ladies' pickup race, Winners were Debbie Morgan and Cathy Halvorsen. Finish ing first in the egg race were Christy Anderson and Judy Ward, followed by Cathy and Frank Halvorsen. Judge Car michael took top honors in the poker run, followed by Del prizes at the next Four Moyer and Matt Murray. Corners playday, scheduled Winners may pick up their for Feb. 6.
