The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, December 14, 1978 THIRTEEN Lt. Randolph Allen joins in practice mission First Lieutenant Randolph P. Allen, son of Mrs. Dixie L. Allen of Heppner, recently participated in "Giant Voice," the Strategic Air Command's bombing and navigation com petition held at Barksdale AFB, La. Lieutenant Allen is an electronic warfare officer at Barksdale AFB, La., with the 2nd Bomb Wing. Giant Voice was conducted to improve bombing and navigational operating pro cedures and techniques. It also tested the readiness and overall ability of individual crews to perform their pri mary mission. Also taking part in the competition were crews from the Tactical Air Command, Air Force Reserve, Air Nat ional Guard and the British Royal Air Force Strike Com mand. Sgt. Hobbs is assigned to Scott AFB U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Daryl F. Hobbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd J. Hobbs of Irrigon, has arrived for duty at Scott AFB, 111. Sergeant Hobbs, an elect ronic communications and cryptographic equipment systems technician with a unit of the Air Force Communica tions Service, previously serv ed at Torrejon AB, Spain. The sergeant is a 1960 graduate of Riverside High School in Boardman. Foreign language resource list is made A list of resource people competent in a foreign lan guage is being developed by Blue Mountain Community College. The foreign language re source list is being kept and updated in the college library. At present, the list includes people with a knowledge of Czechoslovakian, East Indian dialects, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese as well as Signing for the Deaf. Head librarian Mary Bates is interested in expanding the list to include people both in and outside of Pendleton who know a foreign language. Resource lists are available to anyone requesting them. The lieutenant, a 1967 grad uate of Pendleton High School, received his B.S. degree in 1975 from California State University at Sacramento. He was commissioned later that year upon completion of Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, Tex. His wife, Naomi, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph M. Fritz Sr., San Antonio, Tex. n 0 Lexington news betpha Jones 989:St89 J The Morrow County Fair Committee has had a busy month. On Sunday, Dec. 10, the committee met at the home of Marv Clarkson, in Irrigon. Mrs. Lyle (Virginia) Peck Lexington, was wel comed as a new member. Since the meeting, Cliff Wil liams, Lexington, has also accepted an appointment as a new member. On the previous Wednesday, Dec. 6, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rauch drove to Portland where the women were dele gates to the State Fair Board Convention, held at the Thun derbird at Jantzen Beach. They reviewed different types of fair programs and available talent. They also studied problems of fairs, such as admissions, percentages, etc. They heard reports from state lobbyists, legislators and state racing reports. Monday, Dec. 11, at the fair board meeting, the fair com mittee presented their budget for the forthcoming year. The date set for the second Lumberjack Show is April 21. Grange members attend Boardman rite Last Sunday, twelve Lexing ton Grange members attended installation of officers cere monies at Greenfield Grange, Boardman. The degree work was presented by the Umatilla County installation team under the direction of Morton Wolverton. This team also installed the State Grange officers in June. The installa tion was followed by a pot -luck dinner. Those attending from the area were Mr', and Mrs. Lyle Peck, Mr. and Mrs. Glover Peck, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Smouse, Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Cutsforth, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones, Venice Hendricksen and Florence McMillan.
