Wag 1 Jf. t .-. :.i I i .- At Lexington Grange Hall has been chosen as the site for a tri-county (Wheeler, Gilliam and Morrow) Grange meeting scheduled for Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m.. State Grange Master W.C. Harris announced. If the Dec. 8 meeting date conflicts with dates set for local grange meetings, Harris suggested that the local dates be changed in order for Grange members to attend the tri-county meeting. The Dec. 8 meeting will include a potluck dinner. Month of music coming to BMCC December will be a month of music concerts at Blue Moun tain Community College. Jazz Night is set for Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Pioneer Theatre featuring the Blue Mountain Jazz Band and Pop Vocal Ensemble. Jazz Band is under the direction of John Weddle, instrumental music instruct or. Featured soloists in that group include: Johnny Hicks. Jeff Herbig, Matt Singrey and Paul Vorvick. Dave Miller, vocal music instructor, will direct the Pop Vocal Ensemble. Soloists with that group include: Randy Bowman, Melanie Rosen baum, Janet Runnion and Scott Schmittler. A newly formed girls trio will also sing at the concert. The trio, an outgrowth of the BMCC Music Workshop class, includes: Janet Runnion, Mel anie Rosenbaum and Sara Sebastian. Dance company to present 'Nutcracker9 The Nutcracker Ballet will be presented at Blue Mountain Community College's Vert Auditorium at 4 p.m. on Dec. 10. The ballet will be danced by the Mid-Columbia Regional Ballet under the direction of Carolyn Felix. The production follows much of the traditional choreography developed by William Christensen. Frank Bays and Pamela Dyer are guest artists in this season's Christmas presenta tion. Bays is with the First Chamber Dance Co. He has appeared with American Fest ival Ballet and with the Joffrey Ballet. In the latter company, he began in the corps de ballet and worked his way to the position of principal dancer during his six-year stay with the company. Dyer, formerly with San Diego Civic Ballet and Ballet Folk of Moscow, Idaho, is presently artist-in-residence with the Mid-Columbia troupe. She will be dancing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Pam first performed in the Nutcracker at Covent Garden in London where she was a rat in Nuryev's version. She has danced the Nutcracker with the San Diego Ballet and. was the Sugar Plum Fairy for Ballet Folk. Other dancers are drawn from the Richland, Wash, area. Many are high school students. Sponsoring the ballet is the Sgt. Ball graduates from Defense Command school Master Sergeant Ellis E. Ball, son of Mrs. Anna Ball of lone, has graduated from the Aerospace Defense Command Noncommisioned Officer Academy at Tyndall AFB, Fla. The sergeant, who received advanced military leadership and management training, is an electronic warfare systems technician at Tyndall. Sergeant Ball, a 1959 graduate of lone High School, attended Blue Mountain Community College. Installation of Morrow County Grange officers has been set for Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Greenfield Grange in Boardman. Morton Wolverton and his installing team from Umatilla County will conduct the installation ceremony. The 2 p.m. meeting will be followed with a potluck lunch eon. Officers are urged to attend, so that they may be officially installed prior to taking office at the beginning of the new year. College-Community Orches tra and Wind Ensemble will play for the public Dec. 3 at 3:15 p.m. in Pioneer Theatre. Pieces in the afternoon's program will range from "The Black Horse Troop" by Sousa and to "Symphony No. 38 (Prague)" by Mozart. Weddle will conduct the groups. Dec. 7 is the traditional Christmas Concert with the BMCC Chorale at 7:30 p.m. in the Pioneer Theatre. "Coventry Carol" will be sung with accompaniment by two flutes. Janet Runnion is the featured soloist in "Beth lehem's Star." Miller will direct. A special "Messiah" sing is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pendleton Pres byterian Church. "Anyone is invited to come and sing," according to Mil ler. Participants are asked to bring a copy of Handel's "Messiah" if they have one. associated student body of BMCC. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. Food stamp clarification given users Food Stamp participants who have questions about the new "Elimination of Purchase Requirement" which starts Dec. 1 may call on a special extension number for detailed information. The toll-free number is 1-800-452-7813, extension 3654. This special information line will be manned weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is being provided as a special service to all Oregonians who need more details about the new Food Stamp regulations. The Adult and Family Services Division is starting the "no cash for food stamps" a month early in an effort to help the elderly who either do not have or who are reluctant to advance a set amount of money at the beginning of the month. It will also cut down on administrative costs.
