The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, August 17, 1978 B -THIRTEEN Bechdolts, long-time County residents, are King and Queen of '78 fair & rodeo Serving as goodwill ambas sadors at this year's Morrow County Fair and Rodeo will be Adrian and Velva Bechdolt, this year's King and Queen. The couple should be stran gers to few Morrow Countians, since the two have been involved in teaching and farming in the Hardman, i j ; jjiiin ' r--- Will fa L (I t.- m mi ii'HviJ ill Heppner, Lexington and Boardman areas for many years. Mrs. Bechdolt is a descen dant of the Hardman family, for which the southern Mor row County community is named. Her first teaching experience involved a student body of three at a schoolhouse on Rood Canyon. She later taught at Boardman for two years, then served as a Heppner elementary instruc tor for 27 years; Mr. Bechdolt was a member of a three-man graduating class at Hardman High School. He taught mathema tics and business subjects at Boardman and Lexington, and operated farms at Boardman and in the Hardman area. The Bechdolt s have enjoyed attending many past Morrow County fairs and rodeos, which have traditionally pro vided county residents with an opportunity to relax from harvest worries and catch up on visiting. Public appear ances by the King and Queen will include riding in the Rodeo Parade, and serving as honored guests at the Fair's Family Fun Night. County wheat cake bakeoff first step to state crown Mr. & AArsAdrain Bechdolt Cheryl Ammons of Board man will be vying for her third consecutive win in the state bakeoff of the Oregon Wheathearts cake contest. The first leg of the state wheat cake contest will come during the Morrow County Fair, and other county fairs across the state. First place winners at each county con test earn the right to compete for the state title, which includes a $100 award to the finalist. Contestants in the county contest must be 21 years of age or older, with the excep tion of married persons under the age 21. Professional bak ers will not be allowed to compete. All those competing for the county cake crown must follow the 1978 official Wheat hearts recipe. This year's official recipe calls for a fudge-mallow cake, topped with chocolate cream cheese frosting.
