" The Irrigon Assembly of
God church has broken ground
for a new church building. The
architect's plans have gone to
an engineer for his approval,
then as soon as permits are
obtained construction will be
gin on the new building.
It is felt by the congregation
that with increasing popula
tion in the area, a larger
church and more adequate
Sunday School classrooms are
needed. '
The church was started in'
Irrigon by the Rev. and Mrs.
Carl Alquist in 1929. It was set
in order as an Assembly of
God in 1935 with the Rev.

Claude Crawford as pastor.
The original church building
was remodeled in 1944-45
while the Rev. Emil Schneider
was pastor. In January of 1946
this church and the parsonage
burned to the ground. By fall
of that year a new church had
been erected at approximate
cost of $4,500. Volunteer labor
helped keep cost down and the
congregation free of debt. The
parsonage was completed for
occupancy in 1950, with Pastor
and Mrs. Leland Morse and
family being the first to live
there.
Plans for the new building
call for a 92' by 60' ediface of
5.520 square feet. Parking
facilities will be provided on
the same side of the street. A
transfer of property has been
made to make this possible.
The church traded two lots,
recently acquired for two lots
adjoining the church property.
After the Degree of Honor
meeting On Tuesday, June 27,
Mrs. Lincoln Nash, president
of the Carnation Club, held a
planning session concerning
participation in this year's
Sidewalk Bazaar on July 14.
The group will prepare to
:erve lunch to the public that
noon. They agreed to offer
diners their choice of sand
wiches, salads and pie or
cake, the luncheon will be
arranged in the lodge's build
ing between the First National
Bank and the Lebush Shoppe
