I t- The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, June 8, 197fr in O Lexington news Delpha jones Beverley Flint and small daughter Sadi from Beaver ton, and Anita Davidson from Eugene were callers at the home of the girls' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Davidson. They attended graduation exercises in Pendleton for Margy Viall, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Davidson. Anita Davidson is visiting in San Jose, Calif., prior to leaving for Alaska, where she will be employed as a Camp fire counselor for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hunt recently visited in Napa, Calif., and attended the gradu ation of their grandson. Hazel Jackson of Kinzua has been visiting her sisters, Gladys Van Winkle and Doro thy Edwards and families. Luren Mailey of Condon was a Lexington and lone business visitor one day last week. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Patricia Wright and family for Memorial Day and graduation were Mr. and Mrs. Whitmer Wright from Woodburn, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mounts of Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Mounts and family of Pilot Rock. Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Messen ger, Sr. had as weekend visitors their son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Messenger and Jerry Messen ger of Portland. Visitors at the Carl Mar quardt home over the week end were Lolita, a daughter from Portland and Mr. and tfULplMC 989-3189 Mrs. Harley Sager and family of Hermiston. Florence McMillan, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jones and Michael, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Victor L. Groshens attended the wedding reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bowen at the Elks Club in Hermiston on Friday evening. Vicky Walden and Jim Bowen were married at a 5 p.m. ceremony at the First Christian Church in Hermiston. Attending the cou ple were Frank Wilcos and Charlene Whitney of Portland. One of the highlights of the evening was a donkey cart ride from the church to the club for the couple and attendants. The cart was made as a joke for the couple by friends from Hermiston. The cart was powered by a donkey named Snuff that moved only when fed marsh mallows. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Irvin and the granddaughter of Florence McMillan. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill B. Marquardt over the week end were Mr. and Mrs. Rick Marquardt and family of Connell, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Lewis and family from Oklahoma and Norita and Charma Marquardt from Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nichols from Eugene visited at the Dale Chick home over the weekend. Returning home with them was their small daughter Jane who has been visiting the last two weeks with her grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Hen derson from Hood River and daughter and husband Mr. and Mrs. Don McTavish and infant daughter Marissa, . Gresham were visiting friends in Lexington on Sunday. Weekend callers at the C.C. Jones ranch were Mr. and Mrs. Rick Whitney, Charlene and Kim Whitney and Frank Wilcox of Portland, and Satur day dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Smith and chil dren of Hermiston and Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Irvin of Boardman. Mr. and Mrs. John Edwards and family and Gladys Van Winkle visited the ladies' mother Sally Lowry and other members of the family at Mt. Vernon over the weekend. Terrance Kane and fiancee of San Francisco were week end callers at the Mike Kane home. O Irrigon Francis Hose Irrigon students graduating from colleges this June in clude Lori Schnell, with an associate of arts degree from Judson Baptist College in Portland; Sherry Partlow, with a bachelor's degree from Seattle Pacific College ; Karen ms omv v mm XJ o Kinzua Barbara Pike Things arc changing here in Kinzua. The end of the school year and the closure of the mill have resulted in a number of families leaving Kinzua in the last couple of weeks. Several others are preparing to move soon. The number of empty homes in town in creases daily. However you don't want to count us out just yet. Several families in town will be working for Hardwick Logging and will stay in' Kinzua-Camp Five. ' ! The town of Heppner will be' the new home of many Kinzua1 families. Among those who have moved to Heppner in the last couple weeks are Ray mond and Deena Reid and daughters and Gordon andj Shirley Orr and children. Burns is the new home of the Larry Morleys. Hershel Mur dock and Verlin Conner are both working in Tygh Valley. The Murdocks have pur chased a home and are in the process of moving. The Con ners have moved their travel trailer to Tygh Valley. Lavina spent part of last week there with her husband before returning to Kinzua on Sun day. Hardwick Logging has been growing by leaps and bounds lately. The crew employed by Hardwick has grown from 16 to 33 at the last count and shows little sign of slowing down. The company has moved their office from the Hardwick home to the offices formerly occupied by Eastern associate in science; Mary Ann Munkers, BMCC, asso ciate in arts. Mr. and Mrs. Froberg plan to leave Irrigon within the week for Conley, Ga., near Atlanta. They expect to spend a year with their son Bob and his family there. They also have reservations to attend the PTL Club, a well-known Christian television broad casting station, in Charlotte, N.C., during the month of August. The phone number lor the company will remain the same. A family v together was held in Kinzua this weekend when sisters. Vi Slinkard and Naoma Rice and their fami lies were visited by several of their brothers and sisters. The group included Paul and Mavis Oyler, Bend; Kenneth and-Shirley Hollman, Tulsa, Oklahoma; John and Carmen Oyler. Gravette, Arkansas; Melvin and Mary Tucker and family, Cherryvale, Kansas. The Rices' daughter and her family, Linda and Larry Conklin and Dustin, Prine ville, were also here for the weekend. The Tuckers and the Conklins left for home on Sunday. The other visitors are flying home Tuesday. Rita and Cindy Bowman went to Pasco Friday to attend high school graduation for Rita's niece, Leslie Bowlin. The Bowmans returned home Saturday. Brian Say, Prine ville, spent the weekend visiting at the Bowman home. in their absence. Peggy is Mrs. Froberg's niece. The Rev. Don Smith of East Umatilla ministered at the Irrigon Assembly of God on Sunday, at both morning and evening services. Pastor and Mrs. Allen Gordanier and family are on vacation visiting relatives in Eugene and Calif. Five graduating seniors were honored during the Sunday morning service on May 28. The church then had a potluck dinner honoring the Frobergs who are leaving for a year. The afternoon was MIL y p Horse-A-Thon raises $900 for Cystic Fibrosis research Nearly $900 was raised by area horseback riders during a recent 12-mile "Horse-A-Thon" for Cystic Fibrosis. A total of 25 youthful riders took part in the event. Peggy I,auritwn raised the most Anhorns travel to Rouge Valley area Irene Anhorn returned home Sunday evening June 4 after spending several days in the Rogue Valley where she formerly lived. She accom panied her daughter Cather ine of Pendleton to Medford on Friday where they stayed with a son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Anhorn and daughter Patricia. Saturday in Central Point they joined in the celebration of Mr. and Mrs. John Anhorn 's 50th wedding anniversary. This was also the occasion for spent at a baseball game against Hillview Christian Center of Boardman. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Leader of Umatilla a son, Devin Thomas on June 1, weight 7 pounds 12 ounces. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Leader of Umatilla and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Fredricksen, Irrigon. Joe Bowmans announce child's birth Joe and Robin Bowman, Portland, are proud to an nounce the birth of their second child on May 4th at U of 0 Medical Center. Natalie Elizabeth weighed in at a healthy 8 pounds Vz ounce and was 19 inches long. The tiny girl was welcomed by an older sister, Erika, 4'2. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jiggs Bowman, Kinzua; and Mrs. Margaret Hesla, Portland.
