,SX "'4 ' TEN-The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, May 4, 1978 o Kinzua news Barbara Pike 768-2861 Six tables pf pinochle play ers enjoyed an evening of good company, fun cards and delicious refreshments at the Pinochle Party sponsored by the Kinzua TOPS Club Satur day evening. The party was the Kinzua clubs last money raising event in a long series of fund raisers that club members have sponsored to earn money for the TOPS State Convention to be held in Bend May 5-6. Winners for the evening's play included Bob Taylor, Men's High; Sandy William son, Women's High; Bonnie Campbell, Women's Low; and Johnnie Jackson, Men's Low. Hazel Tripp and Mike were the winners of the pinochle prizes. Door prize winners were Vi Slinkard and Henry Spivey. The days are going by, April's over and May brings an ever-growing trickle of families leaving Kinzua for the last time. Most are still living here while they make plans, or having made their plans, are house or apartment hunting. A fortunate few are busy painting, cleaning or remodeling before moving into their new residences. Betty and Hershel Murdock spent most of last week working on their new home in Tygh Valley. Betty won't be leaving us for a while she is one the busiest, most involved people I know and she will be winding up her various re sponsibilities before making her final move. The Raymond Reid family went to Heppner Saturday to finish the work on the house they purchased in Heppner. A,,,,,,,,:.:.::..:,,,., .-,,:,.,. Irrigon news Francis Rose Wilson 922-3352 Pastor Allen Gordanier, Irrigon, announces that the King Family of Riverbank, Cal. will present a gospel program of music on Sunday morning, May 7, at the 11 a.m. service at the Irrigon Assem bly of God. The King family will be the musical guests in Boardman, at Riverside High School Sunday evening, May 7, at 7 p.m. Pastor Roy Plant ex tends an invitation to the public. The Rev. Larry King has been involed in a musical ministry since 1966. He tra veled with a singing group in 1969 to Vietnam. Other mem bers of the family include his wife Susan, daughter Debbie, 16, who plays the piano, son Keith, 15, who plays drums, daughter Rondi, 14, who plays bass and daughter Leslie, 12. The family has traveled through Cal., Arizona, and New Mexico and have done mission work among the American Indians. Mr. King helped to organize a weekly television show which has become known as "The Grande Ole Gospel". Cora Burnside of Spray celebrated her 90th birthday Easter Sunday with more than 100 relatives coming from Pennsylvania, California and Oregon. Among the descen dants were her daughter Lola Breeding and granddaughter Joan Smith of Irrigon and great-granddaughter Lola Humphrey and her two sons, great greats of Lexington. There were four families present representing five gen erations, with three of the families being descendants of Lola Breeding. Six sons and four daughters of Cora Burnside gathered for the celebration and family reunion. Lola Breeding spent a week with her mother in Spray. Ray, Dana and Lana returned to Kinzua with Mark Peterson to take part in the archery shoot on Saturday afternoon. Mark's mother, Shirley Peter son, stayed in Heppner to help Deena and DeRina at the house. The ladies spent the night at the Peterson home in Hermiston, returning to Hepp ner Sunday to do some more work on the house. They Were joined by Carol Griffin and her sons Matt and Mike, Hermis ton. The group enjoined a picnic and a surprize birthday party for Carol before return ing to their homes. Robert and Hazel Reid, lone, were joined by his daughter Roberta Conlee and family for a day of fishing on Sunday. They reported the fishing at Camp Five to be slow for some and excellent for others. Rita Bowman went to Ar lington Wednesday to meet Dr. John Radermachert, Pen dleton. John, who is recover ing from an attack of mono spent the rest of the week resting at the Bowman home. He was joined by his wife Merriloe and their sons Fri day evening. Other friends and family members arriving at the Bowman home Friday evening included daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Dave Riney, and Brian Say, all of Prineville. The Bowmans' son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Ginger Bowman, Fossil, joined the family group for dinner both days. Don and Barbara Pike went to Orofina, Idaho for the weekend to attend a reunion of members of the Taggert family. Among those present was Don's mother Evelyn Taggert Austin and her hus band George. The Austins are former residents of Wasco and now are living in Stevensville, Montana. The Pikes went on to Pierce, Idaho Sunday after noon to visit her uncle, Albert Engle and family before making the trip home.
