Ponies clip Cardinals
in Junior High baseball
A couple of win streaks
collided Monday afternoon in
lone and it was Heppner's
Ponies that kept theirs going
by dusting the Jr. Cards 7-3 in
junior high baseball action.
Both teams entered the
game with three consecutive
wins and a lot of runs behind
them but the Cards were
handcuffed by the five-hit
pitching of Doug Holland.
Craig Gutierrez went all the
way on the mound for the
Cards. Heppner tagged him
for two runs in the second and
two more in the third before
the Cards came back to close
the gap in the bottom of the
third with three runs. The
Ponies iced the win in the fifth
by scoring three more times.
Heppner got on the board
first when Holland singled,
stole second, reached third on
an error which put Dorian
Forrar on base and then
scored ahead of Forrar on a
couple of wild pitches. The
Ponies racked up two more in
the third when Don Lott
singled, Rick Klaus was hit by
a pitch and both were sent
home on Holland's second hit
of the day.
In the bottom of the third the
LaRue who covered the 330
intermediate hurdles in 45.0 to
place fifth. In addition to his
record, LaRue placed fifth in
the 120 high hurdles with a
time of 18.2 and sixth in the
high jump at 5'6". Cardinal
points also came from Greg
Rietmann's 37'7,2" triple
jump which placed fourth.
" Before joining the lady
Cards record-breaking relay,
Lisa Meyers set a new mark in
the 880 where she placed
