The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, April 6, 1978 THIRTEEN 7T-. Tax relief bill signed President Carter has signed "i'lrito law a measure elimina te ting an inadvertent tax burden ''imposed on farmers and f'l ranchers who received de cayed disaster and deficiency b payments. boo "This is another step in the t efforts of Congress to assure B Uiat the economic impact of the recent drought is not compounded by problems with federal relief programs, said Oregon Congressman Al Ull man, House sponsor of the measure. Ullman introduced the legis lation after learning from Oregon farmers and ranchers that a paperwork backlog in the Department of Agriculture had delayed some 1977 pay ments until early this year. The bill was introduced in the Senate by Oregon Senator Bob Pack wood. The legislation allows most farmers to treat the payments received early this year as 1977 income. However, don't expect all the Kinzua-Camp Five people to move out of this area. Many of us plan to stay while new housing is located, children finish a final school year and a few will be hoping to find employment in the area so they can stay here at "home" in Wheeler County.
