Boardman School District
Board Member
Kenneth Broadbent, incum
bent "I have children in
school and am very interested
in education in Morrow Coun
ty. The Board has dealt with,
and solved, some very hard
problems in the last couple of
years, especially growth in the
North end. The new school
building program will, hope
fully, solve the growth prob
lem "for the next few years.
The Board has tried to look
into the future and to build for
the future. I've enjoyed serv
ing on the Board and want to
thank all the people of Morrow
County for supporting me."
Larry Leichleiter "I
thought it was time to have
somebody on the Board who
wanted to get more of the
public to participate in the
meetings. Having attended
meetings, it seems that public
input is more discouraged
than encouraged. I think the
school budget is a major item
on the agenda. If the people
could get more involved they
could come up with , better
ideas than come out of the.
meetings now. The school bus
safety program could be
stepped up. I know from
experience, since my wife is a
bus driver, that some of the
buses in this area are not safe
for children. I don't think the
school budget is too high, but I
do feel some of the priorities
as far as the budget is
concerned are wrong."
Heppner Schools Ad visory
Committee, Position 2
Frank Pearson "We have
a little girl just starting
through school and I'd like to
have some influence on her
education. Also, I think it's a
good way to become more
involved in the community.
Heppner Schools Advisory
Committee, Position 7
Judy Currin "I don't have
any axe to grind but I have
been encouraged to run and I
have always been very inter
ested in education in the
county. I have five children,
the oldest will graduate this
year and the youngest is
entering first grade."
Steve Peck "I feel as the
school district grows, the need
for locl voice on the Advisory
Comittees will grow and grow.
We need someone who will
speak out on the important
issues that directly affect the
people from the area he
represents."
Boardman-Irrigon Advisory
Committee, Position 1
Earl Trudeau "I've al
ways been interested in school
curriculum and activities. I
think we have a long way to go
to solve our schools' problems
and I'd like to have a voice in
the decision-making. We need
to come up with the best
education we can that will
prepare our kids for life later
on." Evans, running for position 6
Two candidates, Mary Mar- on the Boardman-Irrigon Ad
tin, running for postion 4 on visory Committee, were un
the lone Schools Advisory available for comment. Both
Committee, and Francine candidates are unopposed.

replace the basketball scoreboard in the Heppner High
School Gymnasium were distributed to Chamber of
Commerce memers Monday.
The $10 bonds can be purchased from most Chamber
members or through the high school. The bonds may also be
purchased in the form of a tax deductable donation and
recognition will be given to each donor on a donor board to be
located in the gymnasium.
The high school is attempting to raise $2,500 through the
bond sales to purchase two new scoreboards one for the
northwest corner of the gym and one for the southeast
corner with one of the scoreboards providing team and
individual foul information in addition to the score, time and
quarter.
The bonds will be repaid by halftime drawings at both the
varsity football and basketball games. Names of three bond
holders will be drawn at each game until all the bonds are
repaid.
