Parents of fourth graders at
Heppner Elementary School
were treated to lively rounds
of "do-si-doing" last Tuesday
and Wednesday when students
of Mrs. Lorena Jones and
Andy Clark displayed the
square dancing prowess deve
loped in their winter physical
education classes.
Mrs. Jones has been teach
ing square dancing "for quite
a few years", while this was
Clark's first exposure to the
old-time calls. Both say the
fourth graders are enthusias
tic about square dancing.
"They really like it and
learn very rapidly," Clark
said. "There was no problem
nt all motivating the kids and
it's one of the best P.E.
activities I can think of."
The students invited parents
to watch them display their
new skill last week, Mrs.
Jone's class dancing on Tues
day and Clark's on Wednes
day. "Oh, Johnnie, Oh",
"Take a Little Peek", "Red
River", "Divide the Ring"
and "Hinky, Dinky, Parley
Voo", square dance classics
all, were included in the
program .
Refreshments were served
after the dancing exhibition,
and it's hard to say who
enjoyed the day's activity
more the proud parents or
the proud youngsters.
