The State Highway Department is knocking off one of the corners between Lexington and lone for
rock that will be used on a project further down the road. Please see accompanying story.
State mines rock near lone
It might appear one of those
obnoxious curves on the high
way between Lexington and
lone is getting some attention,
but the State Highway Dept. is
actually just borrowing a little
rock for a repair project down
the road.
A couple of state-owned
bulldozers now sitting va
cant because of the weather
condition have been remov
ing rock from the curve area
just south of the Jordan grain
elevators. The rock is being
used on the high way straight
away near Beecher's Cafe
where state crews are leveling
the road to eliminate a sight
problem caused by a dip in the
road.
According to State Highway
officials, the property adja
cent to the curve was pur
chased several years ago with
the hope of eventually improv
ing the curve. Since the
improvement project remains
unscheduled, the Highway
Dept. is now mining the rock
for Hie leveling down the road.
Due to the inclement weath
er, no completion date has
been set for the leveling
project .
