The Two-Trackeis 4-H Horse Club, with leader Merlyn Robinson, are planning a "Horse Christ mas Party" Sunday after noon, December 11, 1 p.m.! The barn at the fairgrounds will be gaily decorated follow ing the Christmas theme, and horses are to come in costume suitable to the season! The club invites other local 4-H horse groups to come join the fun, and I believe they will let anyone in to watch, as they have planned games on horse back, prizes, and fun, plus a gift exchange and refresh ments. (Any gifts for the exchange should not be valued over $2.) What a jolly holiday idea. ..hats off to the Two Trackers ! Sharing.. .A Part of Christmas A special pat on the back to a new colthing club! Members Jennifer, Carolyn, Kimberly Hughes, and Trish Mahoney, the 4-H "Super Sewers", have completed a delightful sewing project, a gift of hand sewn stuffed Christmas ornaments for the state hospital. (Super Sewers leader is Gail Hughes.) Community service, caring and sharing are impor tant lessons we hope all 4-H'ers learn in their clubs, and this group of beginning sewers re-inforce our belief! We know their precious gifts will be enjoyed by those who receive them! LABO Exchange Coordinator Shirley Palmer, Heppner, has agreed to serve again as coordinator for the exchange program which offers our kids the opportunity to travel to Japan next summer, and at the same time, for local residents to act as host families for incoming Japa nese students. The Palmer family are believers in the value of international exchanges, hav ing served as host family for two Japanese students, and also for an exchange from Greece last summer. Shirley was coordinator for the Mor row County-Japanese ex change in 1976. Daughter, Kathy, traveled to Japan as one of the first Oregon and Morrow County 4-H members to be involved in the cultural exchange. Any member of the Palmer family would be happy to share their enthusi asm concerning the exchange. Right now is the time to Hospital Notes Only six patients were admitted to Pioneer Memorial Hospital between Tuesday, Nov. 29, and Tuesday, Dec. 6. Admitted and dismissed during that period of time were James Query, Vernon Gilman and Romona Roun tree, all of Heppner. Still patients on Tuesday, were Earl Morgan, lone; Hazel Rice, Condon; and Darlene Arrington, Heppner. The Morrow County stork took the week off. Thanksgiving dinner shared by family Thanksgiving dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Magill, Pendleton, were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Creston Robinson, her grand- mother, Mrs. Lena Kelly, her aunt and uncle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Saling, Patti and Michele, all of Heppner; and Mr. and Mrs. Don Hevener and Brian, McMinnville. 0 liGJr indicate interest in traveling to Japan. ..or having an inter national visitor in your home next summer. Local 4-H'er to Participate in State Sew with Wool Lori Witt, Irrigon, will be traveling to Portland next week to carry the honors for our county in the state "Make It Yourself With Wool" con test, which will be held at the Sheraton Hotel, December 12. We offer our congratulations to Lori, and hope that her fashionable beige and plaid wool jacket and pants suit, along with her modeling skills, will take her on to further honors! Lori will compete in the junior division, along with other district winners from all of Oregon, with hopes of winning a trip to the national contest, or other valuable awards. Christmas Shopping Advice Jan Weber, OSU Extension Home Management specialist tells us that manufacturers have spread a mind boggling array of small appliances before this year's Christmas shopper, and urges all shop pers to consider two questions before buying. Do you, or your prospective gift recipient, need it, and how much do you have to spend on such a purchase? She also urges shoppers to compare prices on small appliances, as Christmas is one of the biggest sales periods for small appliances, and competition for the con sumer dollar is great. More importantly, the purchaser needs to decide if the appli ance is really needed and just what jobs need to be done. Many appliances, such as an electric fry pan can do many jobs in the kitchen, actually replacing a wide variety of other small appliances. Other factors to be consi dered are where the appliance will be stored for convenient use, and size of the household.. ..what works well for a two person family may be totally impractical for the family of six. Ms. Weber has recently completed fact sheets which give complete information about electric fry pans, slow cookers, mixers, blenders, drip coffee makers, toaster, and toaster ovens, and vac uum cleaners. County needed At the Wednesday, Nov. 30, meeting of Morrow County Court, members discussed the expiration of the present five year Road Serial Levy on June 30, 1978 and agreed that a special election will be needed in early 1978. Discussion of the levy was planned to be continued at future meetings. State Highway Division re presentatives met with the court to discuss complaints received about conditions caused by construction on the Alpine-Nelson Section of the Bombing Range Road. They Natalie Tews receives Merit honors at lone Chuck Starr, lone Principal, announced last week that Natalie Tews, a senior at lone High School, has achieved Commended student status in the twenty-third annual (1978) National Merit Scholarship Program. The honor is the result of her outstanding performance on the Prelimi Brand fees higher for ensuing year Nearly half the 17,500 live stock brands in Oregon have not been rerecorded as re quired by a law passed by the 1977 Oregon Legislature. The new law shortened the time a brand remains re corded from five years to two years and requires the rere cording of all livestock brands before December 31. The law supersedes the old law which did not require rerecording until December 31, 1979. All brands not recorded before the end of the year will be treated as new brands and the fee for recording of new brands is $25 per location of brand. The fee for rerecording on or before December 31 is $10 per location. Location refers to where the animal is branded, as the hip, side or shoulder. If an animal is branded in more than one of these locations, each location is treated as a separate brand and a fee is charged for each. The court signed an order stating that no employee of the county shall be given special rates on tires, batteries, gas, oil or any other property of the County of Morrow. . "It's just the kind of job I've been looking for," she said, adding that it would be some time before her position with the law firm would be more than part time. Spicer will prosecute justice court cases, advise the city on comprehensive planning and update city ordinances. She commented that in the past an attorney has come in on an irregular basis but growth in the Umatilla area made the three-day-a-week position ne cessary.
