EIGHT The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, November 17, 1977 Track project progressing business were Marti Wallis and her mother Nina Castles. Angie Jackson accompanied Barbara and LuAnn Pike to Portland on Wednesday where LuAnn had eye care. Before returning home they enjoyed a visit with the Pikes daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Chuck Constantin. Don and Rose Hardwick went to Portland last Monday for a flight to Vancouver, British Columbia. They at tended the Pacific Logging Congress in the Canadian city. Brian Say was in Kinzua Thursday afternoon to pick up Rita and Cindy Bowman for a trip to Prineville. On Friday Cindy, Brian and his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C.J. Say went to Eugene to attend the District Cross Country run. They returned to Prineville Satur day evening. Rita spent Fri day at Kah-Nee-Ta with a group of about Avon dealers from the Cascade district. The ladies of the district were winners of a Avon sales contst. Rita was the lucky winner of a sterling bowl and a commode set at the banquet. She was presented with a ruby pin, symbol of her membership in the Avon Presidents' Club. She returned to Prineville Friday evening where she was joined by Jiggs on Saturday. Hershel and Betty Murdock went to Redmond Saturday for medical care. Sunday the Mrudocks and Earl and Carol Norris went to Heppner to attend the Square Dance Workshop. Darrel Wilson, cal ler for the lone Grand Squares, is the caller for the workshops held every Sunday evening at the Odd Fellows Hall in Heppner at 6:30 p.m. 0 Kinzua news The Heppner Lions Club completed another phase of the major improvement plan at the Heppner High School track last week when a permanent cement curb was installed around the track. During the summer, the Lions Club Track Project crew worked many evening hours setting forms for pour ing a cement curb on the inside perimeter of the track. Finally, the Lions Club track project crew hit on a better idea of using a curb machine and all the forms that were in came out and the inside track area was re-leveled. On Friday, the final portion of the cement curb was finished. Shockman Bros, do nated the cement and time of equipment and driver to the community project. This par ticular phase of the track project was headed by Jim Wishart. Track coach Dale Conklin and Bob Abrams were non-Lion workers who had spent many hours of volunteer time on the project in past months. Nearly 200 man hours were involved in the work associ ated with the cement curb , installation. This work in addition to the Shockman Bros, donation resulted in a project value of $1,800 for the School District. Barbara Pike 768-2861 Guests at the Clarence Benson home last Thursday were June Stirm, Weiser, Idaho, and Karen Ugalde, Centralia, Wash. Mrs. Stirm who is Betty Benson's sister, and Mrs. Ugalde left Friday moring to continue their trip.' Among those in the Kinzua area for the last weekend of elk season were Arlet Camp bell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Avery Campbell, from Bend and his sister and brother-in-law, Darwin and Arleeta Nicklas from Redmond. Betty and Susan O'Neal spent Saturday in The Dalles taking care of business.
