Entries ranged from hamsters It was a livestock grower's dream last Thursday evening as buyers gathered to bid on 83 head of beef, swine and sheep as prices went as much as a $1.05 over the price floors on the animals. The scene was the 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale held each year during the Morrow County Fair and Rodeo. Carol McEUigott's grand champion 4-H beef brought $1.20 per pound from Sabre Farms while Central Market took Cindy Dougherty's grand champion FFA beef for $1.15 per pound. Morrow County Grain Growers paid $1 per pound for Ken Grieb's reserve champion FFA beef and Oregon Potato Incorporated paid the same for Michelle McEUigott's res erve champion 4-H animal. Beef prices aver aged about 60 cents per pound compared to the floor price of 39 cents. The highest "over floor" price was paid for hogs at $1.50 per pound compared to the floor of 45 cents. Oregon Potato Inc., Heppner Nor-Gas, Morrow County Grain Grow ers and Pat Cutsforth each paid the premium. None of the swine went for less than 90 cents per pound. Highlighting the hour-long procession was the 65-member marching band consisting of school-age musicians from across the county. Under the combined direction of school band directors Jim Ackley from Heppner, George Russell from lone and Rick Bateman from Boardman, the band delighted the crowds which lined Main Street for the annual event. Weatherford, 3rd Harold Peck, lst announcer Gene Pierce pro viding a steady flow of quips, the parade included entries mounted on everything from tractors to tricycles, Grand Marshall Vern Evans led the entourage past the reviewing stand at the Wagon Wheel where parade chairman Jim Wishart stationed his panel of judges. Heading the awards list was the Grand Sweepstakes win ning float entry prepared by the Pioneer Memorial Hos pital staff. Other category winners included the Morrow County Search and Rescue Posse which took first prize in the adult organizations bracket; the Boardman Lions and Lions Auxiliary Club, judged best in the out of town float category and Pendleton's T 7 , !(V; Sound off Crowd pleaser Results Main Street Cowboys entry , which took top prize in the out of county float category. There were horses galore as Milton-Freewater's Reinbow Riders club won the riding club award and - the Jerry Dougherty family was picked as the best mounted family. Nancy Paine was judged the ' best mounted cowgirl of the parade and the best riding cowboy award went to Shawn Paine. The best comic prize went to Melvin Bozarth and Ethel Lehman made her annual appearance as oldest cowgirl. The Morrow County Fair and Rodeo Court led a string of mounted royalties and the Umatilla Sage Riders Queen and Court were judged , the best visiting group. i it A mm V.s fn. - '3 4' 7, i .ft .
