The tavern was closed from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Hostesses for the event were Terry Gray, Myrna Johnson and Diane Taylor. Mrs. Cleo Childers returned home last week after spending a week and a half at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bechtel in Helix. Her father was seriously ill, but is improving now. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Taylor and family have moved to Montana. Monty Crum has moved into the house the Taylors lived in (former Gus Jensen home), and Barbara Teeman and family have moved into the mobile home vacated by Monty Crum. Mrs. Judy Davidson and children were recent visitors at the Lloyd Morgan home. The children spent days with their grandparents and then went out to Charlie Davidson's A cradle shower was held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Virginia Peck honor ing Mrs. Richard (Frances) Peck. The rooms were decor ated with storks as table centers and T.V. arrange ments. Games were played with prizes being won by Dorothy Burcham and Hilda Yocom. Following the opening of her gifts, lovely refresh ments of cake and punch were served. The cake was a square creation adorned with tiny sugar baby shoes and booties in pastel colors of blue and pink. Mr. and Mrs. William J. Van Winkle and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Van Winkle spent the weekend in Seattle visiting relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth DuVall. The trip was made by way of Amtrak. Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Childers were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dillard and family from Wilmore, Kentucky. Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Childers and Roger were host for a surprise birthday party on the afternoon of August 2 in the honor of Mr. Jesse Childers. A large sheet cake decorated in yellow and white bearing the inscription "Congratulations on 80th Birthday" was served along with refreshments to the guests. Attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Simmons of Sacremento, Cal., and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Roy and daughters Elizabeth and Barbara of Lewiston, Ida. Others attending were mem bers of the Senior Citizen group and local friends. Venice is recuperating from a fall while gardening in her yard, causing a stay in Pioneer Memorial Hospital. Susie (Mrs. Rick) Johnston is home after a stay in Pioneer Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Steagall and children of Portland are visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall. Mr. and Mrs. Truman Messenger and Carl Mar quardt made a business trip to Walla Walla last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Truman Messenger, Rena Marquardt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Marquardt and daughter Lolita attended the funeral of Truman's brother, Henry Messenger, in Portland August 3, returning home that day. I tr - visited relatives in the Hep pner area. Mr. and Mrs. Dana Heide mann and family spent last weekend in Lewiston, Ida. where they attended an an nual reunion of Mrs. Heide mann's family. A bridal shower was held the evening of August 4 at the United Church of Christ social room in honor of Debbie Rios, bride elect of Virgil Morgan. Assisting Debbie at the gift table were Bonnie Ball and Tonya Heidemann. Centering the tea table was a large sheet cake decorated in pink and white with a net parosal, wedding bells with pink rosebuds tumbling out of them and the inscription "Debbie and Virgil". A beau tiful arrangement of pink glads, made by Vera Reit mann, stood in the back ground. Cutting and serving the cake were Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Sr. and Mrs. Dana Heidemann. Mrs. Lloyd Mor- 989-8189 will stay with her sister while Bruce is out on ship for eight months. The couple were married July 4, 1976 and this is the first time they have been back to Eastern Oregon. Burce's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Marquardt, hosted a picnic for the couple Friday at the Truman Messenger home. Laurie Childers, Michelle LaRue and Kris Pettyjohn, spent a week at Horsehaven Camp, which is located out of Ukiah. The camp provided instruction in horsemanship and riding. Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom spent last weekend in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Clell Rea drove to Portland Sunday, August 7, to attend the Morrow County Picnic held in Portland for former Morrow County residents. Others in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Lindstrom, Mrs. Ruby Roberts, Mrs. Vera Reitmann, and Joe Engleman. Carol Collins and children, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Owens and family, Norita, Penny and Charma Marquardt, all of Portland. This is the first time in six years all of the Bill Marquardt family has been together. Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Truman Messenger attended the parade and fair at Hermiston. The members spent the afternoon discussing plans for their float to be entered in the . fair parade and the mini-pizza booth the club will have open at the rodeo grounds Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All the members sampled the home made pizzas that will be made at the booth and were very pleased with, the results. The CB Club is still seeking new members. Becky Wright and her four children, all former Kinzua residents, were injured in an accident in Prineville last Friday. Also in the Blazer with the Wrights were three neigh bor children. The entire group was thrown from the Blazer when it overturned. Becky, her son Nathan and one of the neighbor children were still in the Prineville hospital at last report. Kirk Wright, the "oldest of Becky and Mike's sons, is in the St. Charles Hosptial at Bend with head injuries. The Highland Gospel Sing ers, popular Western Oregon group, will be at the Kinzua Community Church on August 28 to present a musical program at the regular 11 a.m. service. A potluck picnic, will follow the services. All are urged to attend the services and join in the picnic on the church grounds. The Kinzua Community Church will hold Bible School each day from 9 to 11 a.m. the week of August 22-26. Classes will be open for pre-school (four years old) to sixth grade. All are welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to help with the classes is more than welcome to call Carol Dyer for information at 768-2822. Iris Morley is looking extra happy following a weekend visit from her daughters, Christine Springer and Annie Morley, both from Hood River. They arrived home just in time to answer the fire whistle at 2 a.m. Grace Carpenter and Mr. and Mrs. William Talbott arrived Wednesday at the John Weaser home. The Talbotts, Cindi's aunt and uncle, returned to their home in LaGrande on Thursday. Cindi's mother, Mrs. Carpen ter, took her granddaughter, Lisa, home with her to spend a couple weeks when she left for Bend Saturday. While in Pennsylvania a family reunion was held with 50 members of the Cooper family in attendance. Glenn's mother who recently celebra ted her 86th birthday had her five children present, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. On thier return trip home they visited with their daugh ter Darla who is employed as a Lobby Hostess at Yellow stone National Park, Wyo.
