Swim lessons start July 19 The third and possibly final session of swimming lessons will get underway Tuesday, July 19 and run through Saturday July 30, according to Tom Franks, pool manager. Those desiring swimming or diving lessons should arrive at the pool at 11 a.m. for registration and the first lesson session. Tuesday, July 19 at 9 a.m. will be the registration and entry test day for both junior and senior life saving classes. Course hours will be arranged for those who complete the test. The cost of lessons is $5 for 10 one-hour sessions. The cost for junior and senior life saving will be $5 plus the Red Cross text for the courses. The pool will be closed this Season stats for Dodgers The Dodgers were led for the season by Jay Hayes with a .607 batting average. Greg Connor had a .559 batting average, followed closely by Rod Cole who hit .558. Greg Connor scored 26 runs to lead the team in that department. Ken Gochnauer and Rod Cole scored 23 runs for the season. Jay Hayes had 34 hits, Greg Connor had 33 hits and Rod Cole had 29 hits for the The 'Zu racked up 13 hits in the game but Roemarks' total of 10 hits included four home runs. Another deciding factor was Kinzua 's 11 men left on base while Roemarks strand ed only two runners. Bill Baker led the Kinzua attack with three hits followed by Mike Rowell and Jamie Query with two hits a piece. coming Sunday, July 17, for the Heppner Invitational swim meet which gets underway with a warm up for Heppner from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by a half hour warm up for Prineville, Hermiston and members of a third team swimming in the invitational. The first event of the meet gets underway at 10:30 a.m. Trophies will be given for first places with team trophies or plaques for other events and ribbons for second through sixth places. Activity continues at the pool this week with adult swim at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights for persons 20 years of age and older. Teen night, including per sons 12 years of age and older begins at 8 p.m. Friday. eighteen game season. Ken Gochnauer, Eric Thompson and John Sumner all had 18 hits for the season. Looking to the men, John Babe Morrow County's Babe Ruth baseball team carried a five game win streak into last week's contest with Sands Caravan only to lose the nine inning thriller by an 11-10 margin. Entering the seventh inning trailing 9-5, Morrow County sent 11 batters to the plate and scored five runs on just three hits. They were aided by five walks and a bases-loaded Bin Job? The other scheduled game last week was forfeited by Umatilla Army Depot. Kinzua travels to Hermiston this week to take on Marlette and will host the Hermiston Herald Wednesday in Lexington. Edmundson won low gross for men's play, Sunday July 10. Ray Massey took low net and Dave McLeod, Jeff Edmund son and Mike Lott tied for least putts. Craig Cooley won the long drive contest and Francis Doherty took the KP award. In coming events, the women travel to Condon Wednesday, July 12, to meet the Condon women in play. July 24 the men and women will travel to Kinzua for club play. Ruthers split final single by Scott Martin which scored two runs. Sands-Caravan sent the game into, extra innings by pushing across a single run on a hit-and-run play in the bottom of the seventh. The score remained knotted until Sands-Caravan swiped the victory on a home-stealing play in the ninth. The last win in Morrow County's five-game streak It was simply a matter of numbers Monday night at Heppner pool as The Dalles swim team came to town in large numbers and outman ned a determined Heppner team. The final score of 593-441 didn't reflect the real contest as many of The Dalles points came on uncontested relay and individual events. Heppner swimmers came away with 16 individual blue ribbons and four relay wins. Karen Kenny set a new pool record in the girls 13-14 60-meter backstroke with a time of 49.9 which shattered the old mark of 53.2. Kelli Bergstrom had a clean sweep with first place finishes in each of the four individual strokes in the girls 9-10 age group. Her times included; 53.0 in the 60-meter free, 1 : 06. 1 in the breast stroke, 1:09.0 in the backstroke and 1:06.5 in the butterfly event. Shane Laughlin finished with three wins including a 49.5 in the boys 11-12 free, 1:05 in the breast and 1:06.4 in the backstroke.
